Tennessee Rep. Threatens NYC Drivers After 9/11 Memorial Gun Arrest

A Tennessee state representative with the friendly name Frank Niceley is upset that New York City takes its gun laws seriously. He's so upset, he's writing resolutions about it! In the wake of the incident involving a woman who brought her loaded gun to the 9/11 Memorial, Niceley has gone and introduced a resolution in his state that gently threatens New Yorkers driving there. But only gently! more ›

Video: Presidential Shoo-In Herman Cain Thinks Americans Have Right To Ban Mosques

This morning on "Fox News Sunday", our favorite pizza magnate-turned-presidential candidate Herman Cain weighed-in on a debate over whether communities should have the right to ban Muslims from building mosques in their neighborhoods. And he used only the most airtight logic in completely misinterpreting the Constitution to argue his views: "They have a right [to ban a mosque]...That's not discriminating based upon their particular religion. There is an aspect of them building that mosque that doesn't get talked about. And the people in the community know what it is and they're talking about it." Watch him discuss the hallowed ground of Murfreesboro below: more ›

Harold Ford Jr. Says Never Mind to Senate Race

Harold Ford Jr. Says Never Mind to Senate Race

Since January Harold Ford Jr.—the Wall Street executive from Tennessee who threatened to take on Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the Democratic primary—has confounded us with weird references to electric cord whippings, pedicures and parakeets, but now he says he won't run after all. We'll miss you Ford, but at least we'll have one last dance: the non-carpetbagger has penned the official announcement, an opinion piece for Times. Ford says if he ran the primary would be "brutal and highly negative," leaving the state vulnerable to a Republican win. His solution: do nothing. “I refuse to do anything,” he writes, “that would help Republicans win a Senate seat in New York, and give the Senate majority to the Republicans.” more ›

Gillibrand's Tax Record Was Once in Question Too

Gillibrand's Tax Record Was Once in Question Too

A sour new press release sent from Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's campaign minutes ago is titled "Simple Yes or No Question: Did Harold Ford Jr. Dodge NY Taxes to Claim His Merrill Lynch Bonus in Tennessee?" But back in 2006, she was faced with a similar question, and gave no simple answer. Her Republican opponent for a seat in Congress asked her to release her tax records, but the Democrat put her foot down, saying she refused to be "bullied," reports the Post. Sounds familiar. more ›

Ford and Gillbrand are Frenemies at Minority Dinner

Ford and Gillbrand are Frenemies at Minority Dinner

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Harold Ford Jr., her likely opponent for the Democratic seat, have engaged in unrestrained bad-mouthing and name-calling, yet at a dinner for Black and Puerto Rican lawmakers yesterday they were able to act like adults for once. The two shook hands warmly, as Gillibrand whispered "Welcome" and "Good to see you," into Ford's ear. Ford thanked her, and came close to giving a hug to the woman who he's previously called a "parakeet," “the unelected senator” and a “tobacco lawyer” (referring to her work as a corporate lawyer). For her part, a ruffled Gillibrand twittered recently: “I wouldn’t let my 6-year-old to engage in this kind of name-calling. And HF thinks he should be senator?” more ›

Things Harold Ford Forgot to Do Before Leaving TN

Things Harold Ford Forgot to Do Before Leaving TN

Harold Ford Jr.—the probable opponent for Kirsten Gillibrand’s senate seat—likes to say he’s no carpetbagger, but he forgot to tie up a few loose ends when he left his home state of Tennessee. “I am a New Yorker, I am a New Yorker,” he repeated mantra-like on MSNBC, and yet he’s never filed a tax return for his Wall Street job in the state. Not just that, he still owns a condo in Memphis. According to his web site, he splits his time between New York and Tennessee. Need more damning facts? He has a Tennessee driver’s license (which is actually illegal for a New York resident it turns out) and has never voted in New York. more ›

Harold Ford Has Never Filed A New York Tax Return

Harold Ford Has Never Filed A New York Tax Return

While facing criticism for being a carpetbagger, former Tennessee congressman and likely Senate candidate Harold Ford swore he was an authentic New Yorker based on his taxes: "I pay taxes there, and once you pay taxes there, you feel like a New Yorker." But records show that Ford has never filed a tax return in New York state. more ›

Steve McNair Slain Inside Tennesee Apartment

Steve McNair Slain Inside Tennesee Apartment

Former MVP quarterback Steve McNair was found dead inside a condo he rented in Nashville, TN yesterday, killed in what appears to be a murder-suicide with a woman he had been dating in recent months. The 36-year-old McNair, also known as "Air McNair," was found shot multiple times alongside 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi, who died of a single gunshot wound to the head. Police had not yet made an official ruling on the deaths, but a spokesman said, "At this moment nothing has been ruled out, but as far as actively looking for a suspect tonight, the answer would be no." The pair met while Kazemi was a waitress at Dave & Buster's and neighbors said that she had recently been seen coming home in limousines and had been driving an Escalade that she said her boyfriend had bought her. Kazemi had been arrested in that Escalade (registered to her and McNair) on Thursday for a DUI. An ex of hers told a local paper, "She did not deserve this. He was making her believe they were going to be together and everything would be perfect.” McNair, who led the Tennessee Titans to the Super Bowl in 1999 and retired from the Baltimore Ravens in 2007, leaves behind a wife and four children. more ›
