A 19-year-old Bronx teen is in critical condition after he was stabbed repeatedly during a subway fight over an iPhone early yesterday morning. Police have now arrested 22-year-old Victor Montalvo and 21-year-old Maritza Lopez in the stabbing of teen Alexander Herald; both have been charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, harassment and disorderly conduct. A teenager who is charged with killing his girlfriend's two-year-old son last month has now also been accused of killing a different girlfriend's infant daughter in 2010. Tyree Wright, 19, has been arrested for the death of two-year-old Jacquil Degraffenreid—Wright is accused of repeatedly hitting him in the torso while the boy's mother was at work. Now, Nyemah Nickens claims Wright also is responsible for the death of her 7-month-old child—a crime for which Nickens has spent 18 months at Rikers Island. more ›

An 18-year-old Harlem teen was shot dead early Friday morning outside his girlfriend's birthday party by an alleged romantic rival. Walter Sumpter was found with a gunshot wound to the chest outside 254 W. 154th St. just after midnight Friday. The shooting took place outside his girlfriend's 17th birthday party at a local community center: “It all took place outside. The girl wasn’t there, but it looks like a friend of the gunman called him and told him [Sumpter] was there,” a source told the News. more ›

Last week, a Brooklyn teen standing on a street divider in Gravesend was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver. Driver Vitali Korzavin, 46, was arrested and charged with a DWI, speeding, and vehicular manslaughter in the death of 17-year-old Stuyvesant High School student Terence Tsao. Yesterday, Korzavin's charges were upgraded to aggravated vehicular homicide from manslaughter, after it was revealed his blood alcohol level was .32, four times over the legal limit. more ›

A Queens teen was fatally shot in the head during a violent 24-hour period between Thanksgiving and Black Friday. According to police, 18-year-old Eric Norman was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head in the driveway of a home on Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway around 10 p.m. Thursday. A Staten Island family of a deceased teen has been awarded $1 million by a jury because of a morgue mess-up involving the teen's brain and other organ parts being kept for testing. In 2005, 17-year-old Jesse Shipley died in a car crash; though his family buried him, his brain was kept by the Medical Examiner and discovered in a jar two months later by his classmates on a school trip to the mortuary. "They were outraged that the medical examiner would take organs without telling a family member and hold them for a long time," the Shipleys' lawyer Anthony L. Galante told SILive, explaining the jury's decision. more ›

A Long Island teen attending college in Rhode Island has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty for allegedly killing a rabbit with a hockey stick and then using the carcass as a puck. Nicholas Coyle, 19, a lacrosse player at Salve Regina University, faces a felony charge of malicious injury to an animal. “Any form of abuse or torture of an animal is completely unacceptable and is contrary to the values of Salve Regina University,” the university said in a statement. more ›

A teen who went through a mistrial last year for the murder of WABC Radio newsman George Weber was found guilty yesterday. John Katehis, now 18, was found guilty of second-degree murder for stabbing Weber upwards of 50 times in March 2009 inside Weber’s Carroll Gardens apartment after responding to his sex ad on Craigslist. A teenage member of the Very Crispy Gangsters has been charged with the shooting of an off-duty cop earlier this week. Eric Greenidge, 18, is accused of firing several shots at rival gang members in a McDonalds parking lot in East New York Monday; officer Dawn Foster was hit in the crossfire, but survived. But officers are angry that Greenidge has been given bail: “In the annals of lousy calls, this one is particularly bad and it needs to be rectified before this thug hurts or kills anyone else,” said Patrick Lynch, president of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association. more ›

On Tuesday, a Bronx teen flew off the handle and beat up a bus driver who wouldn't allow her to get on board with her dog. Driver Marlene Bien-Aime was hospitalized with a black eye, facial cuts, and chest injuries, while 17-year-old Steangeli Medina was charged with assault, menacing and harassment. Now, Bien-Aime is talking about the attack, and what can be done to protect bus drivers in the future: "She punched me in my eyes while I was sitting. She hit me several times in my eyes. Juan Otero was shot in the torso in front of Peaceful Valley community garden while on the way to a corner store at East 117th Street and Madison Avenue around 9:30 p.m. His mother Jessica Montilla tells the News, "I came home and the streets are taped off and and this feeling just hit me. I ran from Park Ave. This cop stopped me and I'm like, 'No!' and I pushed the cop out of the way. My brother—when I saw my brother—I knew." more ›

A Bronx teen has been hospitalized after she confronted two men shooting guns in the air outside a party, and one of the gunmen shot her in the head. Yvette Marie Torres, 15, was at a party in Fordham Heights on Saturday night when a fight spilled out into the street; she approached the men and asked why they were wantonly shooting into the air. "She didn't know this kid. She turned around and he shot her in the back of the head. It was a sucker move," said her brother Jonathan Dimentel. more ›

A 17-year-old was stabbed to death early Saturday morning in the Bronx when he tried to get a $10 refund after he was kicked out of a house party. Police found Damien Martinez with a stab wound to the chest on Bathgate Avenue in Tremont; he was pronounced dead at the hospital. "They killed my brother over $10. Four teenagers have been arraigned on charges of manslaughter and gang assault after allegedly beating 18-year-old Anthony Coallo to death outside a Woodhaven party on Saturday, all while yelling anti-gay slurs, even though Coallo's friends said he was not gay. Now, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly says the incident, "appears to have all the elements of a hate crime and now a hate crime homicide." Police have also arrested a fifth suspect, who has been charged with manslaughter and assault as hate crimes. more ›

Giving fuel to Chuck Schumer's flame, a 17-year-old from Marion, NY crashed his car after drinking two cans of Four Loko. Timothy Taylor, who is not yet a licensed driver, had been "driving around the yard" of a residence in Arcadia around 7 a.m. on November 19th, lost control of the vehicle and crashed through a fence. He told officers he drank two cans of the controversial beverage a few hours before, and he now faces DWI charges. The man who sold him the Four Loko was charged with first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child. Though investigators are still exploring whether Tashawn Bromfield of Connecticut was shot as a part of a gang initiation or whether it was mistaken identity, police say they have no strong leads, and surveillance footage is too grainy to be of help. One cop told the Daily News Bromfield was "100% pure," and his aunt said, "He wanted to come to New York so badly this summer. He was here for less than two hours and look what happened."
