The medical examiner's office stated that Andrew Koppel, the son of broadcast journalist Ted Koppel, died from "acute intoxication due to the combined effects of alcohol; heroin; cocaine; diazepam, the generic form of Valium; and Levamisole, a drug used to cut other drugs." The 40-year-old was found not breathing in a Washington Heights apartment after an all-day drinking binge on Memorial Day (the apartment belonged to a friend of Koppel's drinking buddy) and was later pronounced dead on May 31. The police does not suspect any criminality. Koppel, who had a history of substance abuse issues, was expecting a second child with his partner Ilona Lieberman.

Andrew Koppel Had "Many Substance Abuse Issues"
Family and friends of Andrew Koppel are mourning the 40-year-old's death after an apparent drinking binge over the weekend. A family friend told the Post that he had "many substance-abuse issues," while another said, "What's really puzzling the family is why he ended up where he did. It was a Sunday and holiday weekend. Why was he drinking in Hell's Kitchen and why would he end up in Washington Heights?"

ABC Channel 7 Joins the Podcasting Revolution
Following in the footsteps of it's parent company, Channel 7 Eyewitness News launched three video podcasts last week which are now available to you for free through iTunes. Current content runs about three minutes in length and features such news worthy content as What's Bugging You - The Pregnant Belly Rub!, Neighborhood Eats, Ice Cream, and Joe Torre announces his reuturn to the Yankees. Thankfully it seems that they are just using segments from the nights shows, instead of entire news casts. When we tried to download the latest episode of Lost, it took over 20 hours for it to show up in their music store. If they follow the same time line, last nights news is history (although news about ice cream is always timely, in our book).
