Queens Teacher Pleads Guilty To Sex With 14-Year-Old Student

Melissa Weber, the social studies teacher at a Queens public school who was accused of having an affair with a 14-year-old student back in May, has pleaded guilty to statutory rape. Queens DA RIchard Brown said, “As a teacher, the defendant’s actions represent a disturbing betrayal of trust to the student, his parents and the school that employed her... The defendant’s admission of guilt today not only ensures that she is held responsible for her actions but it also spares the young victim in this case the emotional trauma of having to testify at trial.” As it happens, the 27-year-old's plea deal also spares her from a prison sentence, as she's likely to receive 10 years probation—plus she would register as a sex offender (which means her teaching license is revoked), will have to let the Probation Department know about her various Internet usernames, will not be able to use social network websites and can't visit "school grounds or any other places where children under the age of eighteen may be congregating." The "affair" was discovered when the student's mother found text messages between her son and Weber.

Queens Teacher Accused Of Affair With 14-Year-Old Student

A 27-year-old female social studies teacher at M.S. 8 in Jamaica, Queens was arrested for allegedly conducting a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old male student—in her second floor classroom. Melissa Weber was charged with statutory rape, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child; prosecutors claim she told the boy, a student in one of her classes, "Don’t tell anyone. I could get arrested and I could lose my teaching license."

L.I. Teacher Couldn't Stop Having Sex With Her Student

Hours after a Long Island teacher was released from jail after serving time for her relationship with a 16-year-old student, she was arrested again because authorities found she contacted him while behind bars. A year ago, Wantagh High math teacher Heather Kennedy was charged with statutory rape after an interlude with the student in the Massapequa High School parking lot (he later confessed to his dad, who called the police). She faced additional charges a few months later when authorities found that Kenney had sex with the student repeatedly (at her grandparents' house, at a friend's house) after she pleaded guilty. Now Newsday reports, "Authorities said they became aware Friday night that Kennedy had written the letters"—which were given to the teen by a third party—"and they arrested her at her home at 2 a.m. Saturday." Kennedy, who must give up her teaching license and register as a Level 3 sex offender, was scolded by the judge, who said, "Your conduct, based upon your position in society, is very serious. We certainly have to discourage it from ever happening again."

It's another teacher-student sex scandal: The Star-Ledger reports that an Old Bridge drama teacher was arrested due to an alleged "sexual relationship with a male student that started in February." Lisa Glide, 35, was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, which, if convicted, could mean up to 10 years in prison. Apparently prosecutors received information about a relationship and started to investigate last month; the student graduated this past summer at age 17. Students at Old Bridge High were surprised, telling WCBS 2, "I was shocked because I knew this teacher and she was great," and "She was nice, she was a really nice lady and she really loved what she did and she was really nice to all of us." Glide posted $100,000 last night; her lawyer said, "Like everybody, she is presumed innocent until proven guilty."

A 25-year-old female math teacher and track coach at Wantagh High School was accused of having sex with a 16-year-old male student. Heather Kennedy was arrested yesterday, charged with statutory rape and released on $35,000 bail.
