The website for the Figli di San Gennaro, the non-profit that has been running the Feast of San Gennaro since 1996, claims that the organization has donated more than $1.6 million dollars to at least 72 charitable organizations in the past 15 years. "No other street fair in New York City comes close to donating the amount of money we give to charities each year," Joseph Mattone, president of the organization, says on the website Which may well be true, but in 2009 at least (the last year for which tax records are available) the feast didn't give a dime to any charities.
San Gennaro Not So Generous?
Bloomberg's Tax Returns: He's Still Really Rich!
Last Friday, Mayor Bloomberg allowed reporters to take a peek at his taxes. Guess what—he's still crazy rich, since he's able to not only put $500,000 into a trust for his ex-wife, he's also put over $1 million into a trust for an ex-girlfriend!
NYC Lets You File Taxes Free Online
According to Department of Consumer Affairs, over 2.5 million New Yorkers paid to have their taxes done in 2007. This year the city is offering a free online tax service for anyone earning under $58,000/yr. As part of the Annual Tax Credit Campaign, New Yorkers can file online through the One Economy Corporation via nyc.gov/OnlineFreeTaxPrep. The city estimates that over 2.7 million New Yorkers qualify for the service. We just wish we knew about it before we went ahead and filed our returns early like suckers.

Rangel's Taxes Keep Turning Up Mangled
Rangel claims that he just discovered the errors and that once an accounting expert performs a "thorough, independent review," he will publicly release his tax returns from the past 20 years. Rangel continues to defend himself that since these are all errors of omission that he has "done nothing to dishonor myself, my colleagues, or this House." He also refuses to entertain the idea that he will have to step down as chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee.
Interest on Rangel's Villa Loan was Waived
Representative Charles Rangel's Dominican Republic villa continues to be scrutinized as it's now reported the interest on his mortgage was waived. This comes a day after his lawyer also revealed the powerful Chairman of the House's Ways and Means Committee did not report $75,000 in rental income (over the past 20 years) from the villa.
Clintons' Tax Returns Sent Up by SNL
Hillary Clinton's Friday afternoon tax return disclosure about her and Bill's $109 million in income between 2000 and 2007 became fodder for last night's Saturday Night Live opening. While it's awesome to see Darrell Hammond play Bill Clinton, the Laser Cats 3 Digital Short was a little more fun.
