Tax Day Protest Photos, Videos: Tax Dodgers Visit Donald Trump's Trump Tower

Earlier today, Tax Day protesters visited fat cat Donald Trump's Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue. The ladies who lunch (literally) were just letting out of a bash hosted by the Donald in celebration of Ann Romney's birthday as protesters dressed as the Tax Dodgers and their fans sang Take Me Out To The Tax Game. While some of the women seemed bewildered and shielded their faces with Chanel clutches, others squawked at the protesters, "At least we pay taxes!" and "Maybe you should get real jobs!" We'll have to assume that by "real jobs" the ladies attending a luncheon for Ann Romney were referring to the trials of a rich housewife. In any case, protesters were unfazed and continued with their shrewd charade. more ›

Oh, Sh*t: It's Tax Day

Yes, the thing that you promised you'd do weeks ago right after you cleaned that area behind the toilet and started going to yoga every week is DUE TODAY. But for most people doing their taxes means hitting "send" shortly before midnight instead of waiting in line at the post office. more ›

[UPDATE] NYPD Kicks OWS Off Wall Street For Now As Tax Day Protests Loom

[UPDATE BELOW] The tolerance shown by the NYPD last week towards the group of Occupy Wall Street protesters sleeping across the street from the NYSE evaporated this morning, as police cleared the sidewalk on Broad Street. According to the Times' Colin Moynihan, the order to vacate was given at 6 a.m., and for the next few hours police corralled the 100 or so protesters up the street so the sidewalk could be power washed. Four were arrested in the process, and one protester was punched in the face by an officer after he swung a bag at an NYPD camera documenting the action. more ›

New York's Illegal Immigrants Paid Over $600 Million In Taxes Last Year

Don't say illegal immigrants never did anything for you. According to an estimate from the Institute for Taxation and Economic Policy, households headed by "unauthorized immigrants" paid $662.4 million in taxes to New York state in 2010. Nationally, they paid about $11.2 billion in state and local taxes. It's probably because they're such hard workers. more ›

Photos From Bryant Park Tax Day Protest: Rage vs. Apathy

There's still no grass in Bryant Park—unless of course you count this afternoon's grassroots protest against the capitalist swine who pay no income taxes. MoveOn.org sponsored the rally, which was intended to shame companies like Google, Verizon, General Electric, and Bank of America for dodging their tax bills and expose the "America is broke" lie that both parties parrot. But the hundred-something protesters were outnumbered by the weary grey drones who silently slid Chipotle down their numb gullets, thinking less of grabbing a pitchfork and more of the episodes of True Blood they're going to catch up on this weekend. more ›

Vent Your Tax Day Rage At Lunchtime Bryant Park Protest Today

Vent Your Tax Day Rage At Lunchtime Bryant Park Protest Today

As part of a nationwide protest today, resentful taxpayers will gather in Bryant Park (corner of 42nd Street and 6th Avenue) at 12:30 p.m. to call attention to corporations who get sweetheart tax breaks from the government. Organized in part by Move On, the demonstration—not to be confused with the conservative "tea party" rallies—will demand that "big bank tax dodgers" like Bank of America, Citigroup, and Goldman Sachs "pay their fair share of taxes. At the end of the event, local residents will deliver Bank of America with a tax bill." These are trying times for Bank of America, which has also had to spend money to fend off a 1,784 billion, trillion dollar lawsuit. more ›

Tea Party Loves Looking For Libtards On Tax Day

Since yesterday was tax deadline day, the Tea Party broke out the china for demonstrations across the country. Lou Dobbs dropped by the rally near the James A. Farley Post Office in midtown and told the crowd, "You are scaring the hell out of them. You, my friends, are dangerous - and I love that about you." And a Russian immigrant who is involved with the cause told the Post, "I don't like big government, I don't like intrusive government. I actually had to fight it in Russia." more ›

Tax Day Awaits

Tax Day Awaits

If it's April 14, it means people are scrambling to get their taxes mailed in time for tomorrow's deadline. A tipster tells us he went to a post office (Ansonia Station, at Columbus and 68th in Manhattan) at 7:50 a.m., 10 minutes before opening: "The facility was open, but the postal worker windows weren't opened, so we could line up. I ended up being ninth in line (two postal workers were available). By the time I left, there were 50 people in line for three postal workers." Here's the USPS's branch locator—the Farley post office on 8th Avenue, between 31st and 33rd Streets across from Penn Station, is open 24 hours. more ›
