A funeral was held in Williamsbridge yesterday for Tashawn Bromfield, the 16-year-old fatally shot while sitting in his father's courtyard in the Bronx. Police believe Bromfield's shooting was a case of mistaken identity, and previously thought he may have been an innocent victim of a gang initiation. Bromfield was visiting his dad for the weekend, and had stayed out late with a friend. One mourner said, "It was so unfortunate that a simple trip to visit his dad in the Bronx ended up being a nightmare for his whole family."

Case of CT Teen Fatally Shot In The Bronx Already Cold
Though investigators are still exploring whether Tashawn Bromfield of Connecticut was shot as a part of a gang initiation or whether it was mistaken identity, police say they have no strong leads, and surveillance footage is too grainy to be of help. One cop told the Daily News Bromfield was "100% pure," and his aunt said, "He wanted to come to New York so badly this summer. He was here for less than two hours and look what happened." Bromfield was visiting his dad, and was sitting on his stoop, drinking a Slurpee with a friend when he was shot in a drive-by.
Fatally Shot Teen's Father Had Warned Him to Stay Inside
The 16-year-old boy fatally shot while sitting on his father's stoop in the Bronx on Saturday night had been told the stay inside by his father, who was reportedly at North Central Bronx Hospital with an unspecified health problem. But Tashawn Bromfield of Meriden, CT went to 7-Eleven with a friend, and sat on the stoop drinking a Slurpee. Police still believe he wasn't the intended target of the drive by shooting, and that the shooting was part of a gang initiation. One witness told WCBS it was an "unfortunate incident. The young man was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
