Video Shows Suspect Hurling Molotov Cocktail At Hindu Residence In Queens

Investigators are searching for a man seen in this surveillance video hurling a Molotov cocktail at a private home in Jamaica, Queens that doubles as a Hindu place of worship. The suspect, described as black, 5-feet-8, 200 pounds, and 25 to 30 years old, was caught on camera throwing a Starbucks Frappuccino bottle filled with flammable liquid at the residence, one of four places in Queens that were firebombed late Sunday night. A fifth home on Long Island was also hit Sunday night, and Nassau County police tell the Times that incident has "some characteristics" similar to the Queens attacks. more ›

Police Seek Man Who Impersonated Cop And Lured Teen For Sexual Assault In Brooklyn

The NYPD has released this sketch of a man they say posed as a police officer and sexually assaulted a teenage boy in Brooklyn on Friday morning. According to police, the man, who was dressed as a civilian, approached the 15-year-old boy around 9:30 a.m. on a subway platform at the 53rd Street and 4th Avenue subway station in Sunset Park. After seeing the teen throw an empty bag of chips onto the platform, investigators say he produced what appeared to be a police badge and ordered the teen to accompany him. more ›

LI Cops Criticized For Killing Knife-Wielding Burglary Suspect

A 23-year-old Long Island man being investigated for a burglary was shot to death by police yesterday after he charged officers with a foot-long knife. Kurt Doerbecker was involved in a standoff with police when he refused to exit his parent’s waterfront home in Point Lookout to speak to them. He was shot several times after he advanced on an officer "in a threatening manner" and refused an order to drop the knife. But Doerbecker's family are upset with cops who they say were "overly agressive." “There were 60 cops and one young man. They shot him dead. Police are searching for a woman who robbed and shoved an 81-year-old woman to the ground at a downtown Manhattan subway station. On January 4 at 10:40 p.m., Madeline Klima was swiping her Metrocard at a turnstile at the Fulton Street station when the suspect approached her from behind. It's reported that the man suspected of six muggings at Co-op City in the Bronx and at Peter Cooper Village and Stuyvesant Town in Manhattan has been arrested in NJ. The Post reports, "A hulking ex-con was picked up by cops in Bergen County, NJ, over the weekend -- and sources said he's being eyed as the ice-pick predator." In the six crimes, a man wielding an ice pick (or knife) has approached women entering their apartment buildings, threatened them, and taken their money, jewelry, and cellphones. Police are looking for a man who apparently tried to abduct a little boy from his nanny on East 6th Street between Avenues A and B in the East Village yesterday morning. Video shows a man grabbing the 4-year-old and trying to walk away with him, but his nanny screamed and took the boy back. The suspect fled west on East 6th; the principal of PS 64 right down the street says police told her about the incident. The suspect is described as a black male "between 45 and 55 years old... about 5-foot-7 with a slim build... wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and faded black jeans." Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly beat and raped a 79-year-old woman in her apartment building in the Bronx earlier this morning. Police have charged 31-year-old Richard Mitchell for the murder of teenager Genice Clark. Clark was shot outside the Stapleton Houses in Staten Island, and family members believe she intervened in an argument taking place within a group of peers and was shot as some form of payback. Now the family says they believe it was Mitchell, a distant relative of Clark's, all along. Clark's mother Karen Jones told the Daily News, "We knew it was him the whole time. Police arrested a suspect in a June 2 sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. According to WABC 7, the woman was walking near Linden Boulevard and Bedford Avenue around 2 a.m. "when police say 20-year-old Rony Delmas grabbed her and forced her between 2 parked cars where he sexually assaulted her. Delmas then allegedly walked her several blocks to a secluded area located on Parkside Avenue, where she was raped. The second suspect, identified by police as 20-year-old Stephon Edwards, showed up and then he also raped the victim according to investigators." Delmas was arrested and police are looking for Edwards, who is "described as a black male, 5'6" tall and 120 lbs." more ›

Investigators have released this photo of a man suspected of opening fire on a Bed-Stuy street on Sunday afternoon, wounding three people, including a 5-year-old girl. Adam Bilal, 24, is suspected of shooting Syniah Herndon in the leg, and shooting Jamel Franklin, 20, and Darnell Billinghurst, 23, in their arms. Fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening. Dubbed "Bandit Tracker," the website features a database of images, crime narratives, and maps that authorities hope will generate valuable tips from visitors, according to the Post.
