Park Slope Residents Say Cops Were Slow To Investigate Attack
Yesterday, a video of a woman being attacked on a Park Slope street was made public, showing how her screams attracted the attention of neighbors, which then scared the man into releasing her. The attack occurred on March 20th, and residents say that the police didn't seem very interested in investigating the crime: One told WCBS 2, “Basically there’s a sense that the police aren’t going to do anything. And that encourages this kind of crime."
DA's Request Delays East Village Cops' Rape Trial
Yesterday, jury selection for the trial of police officers accused of raping an East Village woman was supposed to begin, but the prosecution asked that it be delayed for two weeks in order to present evidence to a grand jury. A judge agreed to it—grudgingly, noting, "I'm not sure why it took this long to figure this out"—and one of the cops' lawyers crowed, "They simply overlooked a piece of evidence that we believe is very favorable to the defendants in this case."
What Happened To Video Of "Drunk" Sanitation Workers?
Over the weekend, the Department of Investigation began a probe into allegations that Sanitation Workers not only staged a slowdown, but that some were drinking on the job when they should have been plowing the streets. Witnesses say a few workers bought beer at a Brooklyn bodega, and according to the Post, "DOI investigators immediately responded." However, once they went to retrieve a surveillance video of the incident, they found it had been mysteriously "overridden."
2nd Video Released Of Suitcase Murder Person Of Interest
Police released another video showing a man believed to be connected to the murder of a woman whose body was found in a suitcase. The first video showed a man dragging a suitcase down East 114th Street, near where the body was found. In the new video, the Daily News says, "The man in the new video - who appears to be paying in cash inside an area supermarket then picking up a bag of groceries - wears the same black winter coat and wool hat as the individual seen with the luggage." The Post reports the man is buying beer in the video—and even smiles right at the camera. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers.
Video: Man Dragging Suitcase With Dead Woman's Body
After the horrifying discovery of a woman's body stuffed into a suitcase left on East 114th Street across from Thomas Jefferson Park (a passer-by noticed a foot sticking out early yesterday morning), surveillance video has emerged of a man dragging a suitcase down the very same street. The video (below) shows a man walking down the street, pulling the suitcase, but then pauses a few times as people walk by or to wipe his face. The person who provided the video told the Post, "He's got a body in his suitcase and he's just standing there like nothing's going on. I freaked out when I saw that... It's f--ked up. [He's] just standing there."
Video Shows Police Beating In Building Lobby
After showing it in court yesterday, the Manhattan DA's office finally released surveillance video of an NYPD officer delivering 20 baton blows to a man in the lobby of a West 93rd Street housing project. Prosecutors say that on the night of July 18th, 2008, Officer London, a 15-year NYPD veteran, continued bashing the man, Iraq war veteran Walter Harvin, even after he was handcuffed. The video does not show the post-handcuff pummeling—but it does show London's partner Mohammed Khan struggling to put the handcuffs on without getting his fingers bashed by the swinging baton.
Deli Worker Risks Life Defending Store from Armed Robbers
Bodega worker Danny Caba is the latest in a long line of retail employees who inexplicably risk their lives to protect their bosses' profits from thieves. At 7:15 a.m. on Saturday morning two men—one wearing a black mask and bullet-proof vest and carrying a .40-caliber Glock loaded with 12 rounds—entered the Lantigua deli at 30-74 14th St. in Astoria, forcing employees in the back of the store to lie on their stomachs and quickly moving behind the counter, where they encountered Caba, an immigrant from the Dominican Republic who just wasn't having it. Oh hell, no.

Nurse Jessie Joiner of the William Benenson Rehabilitation Pavilion in Queens has been charged with endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person and willful violation of health laws after she allegedly pushed an 85-year-old woman out of her wheelchair and left her writhing on the floor with a broken hip! A surveillance video from March 20th shows Joiner entering a room and jerking the woman's wheelchair with such force that she falls on the ground. Though that could have been an accident, Joiner then walks out of the room, leaving the woman on the floor.
Video Of Times Square Car Bomb "Person Of Interest"
The NYPD released a 19-second video of a man who was caught looking around in a furtive manner in the hours before a car bomb was found in Times Square on Saturday night. While Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the man could be totally innocent, the police are hoping the public may be able to identify the figure, a white man in his 40s, who takes off a dark shirt (revealing a red shirt), puts it into a bag, and walks down Shubert Alley (which runs between 44th and 45th Streets), or that the man will come forward. The Nissan Pathfinder SUV that was found with M88 fireworks, gasoline, propane, alarm clocks and non-explosive fertilizer was parked on West 45th Street.

FDNY Brawl at Salty Dog Could Lead to Gang-Assault Charges
Using surveillance video from that epic bar brawl at the Salty Dog in Bay Ridge, prosecutors have identified 11 people, including active and retired firemen, who may face some pretty serious charges. One captain and one lieutenant have been identified, and the Brooklyn DA's office is considering "slapping" the whole crew with gang assault charges, sources tell the Post. However, some prosecutors "are concerned that a gang-assault rap might lead to expectations of identical charges in future cases." It's true; once the public gets a taste of that sweet gang-assault justice, they'll never stop craving it!
UES Jewelry Thief Caught on Tape, Threw Away Fabergé Egg
The robber who killed a 71-year-old man in an Upper East Side jewelry heist stole so many valuables that investigators believe he threw away a Fabergé-style egg during his escape. According to law enforcement sources, the gunman who shot Henry Menahem in the R.S. Durant shop on Madison Avenue on Wednesday grabbed more than 700 items worth nearly $1 million, then dumped the decorative egg, valued at between $100 to $1,000, in a bag next to a trash can at the northwest corner of Lexington Avenue and 73rd Street.
Video Shows Super Mario Bros. Assaulting Cabbie On Halloween
It's unclear what, if anything, this has to do with rescuing the princess, but the Super Mario Bros. roughed up a cab driver on Staten Island on Halloween. They were caught on video by a gas station surveillance camera, and the whole thing would be a lot more amusing—the Post calls it a "joystick-up"—if these bastards weren't actually, you know, beating somebody up. (Or if the driver was dressed like a turtle.)
Feds: Terror Suspect Zazi Planned Attack For 9/11/09
Federal prosecutors are now suggesting that the beauty-supply bomb plot in which Najibullah Zazi has been implicated was supposed to take place on September 11, 2009. Post Examines Video of Plax & Pierce's Strip Club Visit
Besides criminal charges and the Giants' offense being less-than-stellar, the NY Post delves into another possible problem from Plaxico Burress and Antonio Pierce's night on the town: Surveillance video showing Pierce getting cozy with a woman who does not seem to be his wife. Before Burress and Pierce went to the LQ nightclub (where Burress accidentally shot himself with his own gun when it fell down his track pants), the pair went to strip club Head Quarters. The Post describes the video, "As she pulls away, he slides his paw across her breast, briefly grabs and tosses her hair, and then slides his hand down to briefly stroke her curvy bottom." Pierce was married to Joyce Maldonado, who is a model and sportscaster for the Mets, earlier this year; they are a pretty gorgeous couple.
