Video: Woman Narrowly Escapes Park Slope Attack

And here we have the harrowing video of a Park Slope woman getting attacked on 16th Street by a man described as "a short, Hispanic man with a stocky build." The video was shot from someone's front stoop surveillance camera, and includes sound, so you can hear the woman's blood-curdling screams of terror as she tries to break free from her assailant's grasp. The only thing that stops this video from being completely disturbing is that she manages to break loose as concerned neighbors emerge from their houses. The video also shows the attacker pulling up his pants as she flees. more ›

Big Brother Getting on the Bus, 400 MTA Buses Get Cameras

Big Brother Getting on the Bus, 400 MTA Buses Get Cameras

Starting in the spring, the MTA will be installing surveillance cameras on 400 buses with routes in Manhattan. MTA spokesman Charles Seaton tells us that the cameras will have a view of the entire length of the bus, which means we'll have decent B-roll if NYC ever gets an Epic Beard Man fight. According to agency documents obtained by the Post, if the program is successful, the number of camera-equipped buses could grow to 1,150. more ›

Perv Doc Used Camera To Spy On Ladies in Bathroom

Perv Doc Used Camera To Spy On Ladies in Bathroom

Long Island cardiologist Vincent Pacienza was convicted yesterday of unlawful surveillance for setting up a surveillance camera in the bathroom of his medical office to watch women do their business. Back in June 2008, Pacienza closed an employees-only bathroom at this Manhasset office, leaving one bathroom for both employees and patients. He also informed female employees he had installed an air purifier across from the toilet, but according to the Nassau DA's press release, the air purifier "contained a hidden wireless camera with a direct video feed to a monitor underneath Pacienza’s desk." more ›

Subway Cameras Useless in Catching City Hall Perv

Subway Cameras Useless in Catching City Hall Perv

Last week some creep exposed himself and grabbed a female rider in the City Hall R train station, which just so happens to be the same station frequented by noted lech Mike Bloomberg. (Just sayin'.) And like most other stations in the transit system, the City Hall station doesn't have security cameras. Or wait, actually it does have cameras, but the NYC Transit contractor who installed them did such a lousy job that they're useless! So yesterday Public Advocate Bill de Blasio trooped over to the station for a press conference to demand that state leaders fix over 2,000 broken security cameras and reverse layoffs for over 450 station agents. more ›

MTA Security Camera Plan Leaves Out 75% of Stations

MTA Security Camera Plan Leaves Out 75% of Stations

So far 70 stations are rigged with the cameras, and by June that number is expected to reach 100. The agency asked that $250 million be set aside for security projects over the next five years, but Albany—where Gov. Paterson is hashing out a budget for the upcoming year—rejected the proposal. Bridge tolls, which would have paid for subway surveillance in addition to other improvements to the MTA, were voted down by the legislature. With things as they are the administration warned earlier this year that the planned security overhaul "may never be completed."

Subway Stabber Escaped Through Station Without Cameras

Subway Stabber Escaped Through Station Without Cameras

Investigators have few leads in their search for a man who fatally stabbed two men and injured another during a fight on the No. 2 train early Sunday morning. Yesterday cops continued canvassing the Greenwich Village area, handing out fliers and looking for witnesses. But they have no description of the attacker, who is only described as Hispanic. Part of the challenge facing investigators is that the Christopher Street station, where the man is believed to have fled the subway, has no surveillance cameras. more ›
