If you take the 1, 2 or 3 trains, check MTA.info before you go, because a 20" water main break at Murray Street and West Broadway has caused issues along the line. Right now, the 1 train is suspended between 14th Street and South Ferry, select 2 trains trains are running on the 5 line between the Nevins Street Station and the 149th Street-Grand Concourse Station in both directions, and the 3 train is suspended between the 14th Street Station and the Atlantic Avenue Station in both directions. more ›

Last night, a reader complained, "A/C/B/D all DOWN tonight because of 'suspicious activity' plus helicopters and NYPD emergency vehicles heading to the scene." It turns out there was an incident at the 116th Street B/C station in Manhattan—a person was struck by a train. NYC Transit Tweeted a little later on, "Update: police investigation @ 116th St cleared, customer deceased. Uptown A & D resume local service only. Expect delays. #ServAdv," and then, "Earlier incident @ 116th St which affected uptown A, B, C & D appears from accounts so far to have been a customer suicide." more ›

News Flash: Subways are Slow

New data from NYC Transit reveals subway commuters are getting slower in recent years. The NY Post reels off the depressing numbers: "Through June, the number of delayed trains is up an average 24 percent from two years earlier, and 71 percent from three years earlier. And the distance trains travel without breaking down was down 7 percent in July from two years earlier, and 17 percent from three years earlier." And the areas of blame are lack of money for maintenance, higher ridership, additional track work to keep the 104-year-old system running. more ›

This morning, a person was hit by a train by a 4 train at the Union Square subway station around 8:30 a.m. The police investigation is ongoing (power is being shut off/needs to be shut off), and NYC Transit is running Brooklyn-bound 4 and 5 trains on the local tracks between Grand Central and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. Subway Delays, Due to Fire, Switching Problems

A four-alarm fire that destroyed at least 12 businesses in the Bronx has also caused some transit issues. Smoke at the Pelham Parkway 2 station is causing the 2 to bypass all stations between Wakefield-241st and East 180th, bypassing Gun Hill Road, Burke Avenue, Allerton Avenue, Pelham Parkway and Bronx Park East. The MTA says there are shuttle buses between stations and also suggests riders take other buses for the B, D, 4 and 6 trains. more ›
