Aspiring thieves, may we offer you a piece of advice? If you are going to grab 'n' dash on a subway platform please run into an elevator. Because those things get stuck all the time. And? They only have one set of doors! Which means you've essentially run right into a closet. Crime is rising underground, according to the latest NYPD crime stats obtained by amNY. Grand larcenies have increased 7.7% since 2009, and combined with robberies, these crimes make up for 91 percent of subway crime. But NYPD spokesman Paul Browne has a different theory, and, as in all things, the teenagers are to blame. more ›

Thieves time it so that just as the doors are about to close, they make their grab and take off, leaving the victim trapped inside the train, and helpless to do anything about it." One rider was philosophical "You know if [my phone] gets stolen, I'd rather let it get stolen than get stabbed or something like that."
