Early Sunday morning a white 29-year-old leather goods salesman named Jason Fordell says he was beaten on a 4 train by a group of four men who eventually stole his bag with nearly $3,000 worth of goods in it. In addition to the gang, Fordell claimed that a fellow straphanger joined in on the subway attack, allegedly saying "Oh, I get a few shots, too" before kicking him in the chest. Police were unable to find the gang, but they were able to find and arrest 54-year-old Barinthe Ramoutar, who Fordell fingered as the eager straphanger. Last night a judge released Ramoutar without bond.

A white man claims he was beaten and robbed by four men (and a fellow straphanger) on a train taking him home to the Bronx early Sunday morning and now the police are investigating to see if the crime had a racial bias. 29-year-old leather accessories designer Jason Fordell was first taunted and then attacked and robbed by a group of black men on the train to the Bronx just before 5 a.m. The Daily News reports that four of the men remain at large but police have arrested one Brooklyn man who reportedly joined in on the attack for kicks.
Enjoy the Gay Pride Parade, But Be Alert, Too
Gay Pride Week is coming to a close with today's Gay Pride March along Fifth Avenue and a number of other events. But while you celebrate, please remain vigilant also, because a reader tells us he was attacked on the 2/3 from Christopher Street late yesterday afternoon, after volunteering at a pride event:
"The guy kept asking us to move because he didn't like us and that we made him sick. There was no place else for us to go. He started hitting me and then his girlfriend started clawing me with her nails...I took a cab to St. Vincents, filed a police report and got two black eyes, 7 stitches, multiple chipped teeth, broken glasses."He suggests people be careful, perhaps travel in groups on the subway, because he doesn't think the police caught his attackers yet.
