It's the amazing event that pigs and cows fear most! The Big Apple BBQ Block Party took over a good part of the Madison Square Park area with ten different barbecue offerings along a few blocks on Madison Avenue and on 24th Street (we remember when it was only on East 27th!). The BBQ Block Party benefits the Madison Square Park Conservancy, and it was great to see everyone enjoying the event, from hauling loads of foods away in boxes to listening to the live music. Gothamist went hog wild and tried various meats offered by esteemed pitmasters from all over the country.

There's more information about the mysterious deaths of Mellie Carballo and Maria Pesantez, the two 18 year old women who were found unconscious at a Lower East Side apartment and later died. The girls' families say they were not drug addicts, but friends and the two men who were last with the girls say they had been using drugs. The police think uncut heroin or cocaine may have led to overdoses. One of the men, Roberto Martinez, told the Daily News that he only met the girls when Alfredo Morales called him to come to the apartment because the women were having seizures. The NY Times has an extensive article about the conflicting thoughts from family and friends about the deaths and how the women met the older men (at Ludlow Street Bar, Dark Room). The ME's office is still working on toxicology tests.

City Councilwoman Eva Moskowitz is set to release a report on the noisiest bars in the city today, says the Post. The report, based on complaints made to 311, cites Sutra Club on First Avenue as the noisiest bar in the city with a whopping 235 complaints (the owner chalks it up to an angry neighbor who "discovered her power in 311 and would call every single night as a strategy."). The runner-up in noise/complaint production is Morrisey Park on St. Mark's followed by Rothko on Suffolk St followed by the 11th Street Bar.

There will be jazz and seminars, as well as lots of delicious food. Gothamist thinks the big event will be Saturday's All-Star Barbecue Sauce Tasting that has authors and gourmands Jeffrey Steingarten and Calvin Trillin putting their palates on the line, with Colman Andrews of Saveur moderating. You buy tickets that will let you purchase all sorts of 'cue and fixins' - we couldn't find any info on the sit, but expect to spend around $10-20 (depending on how big your appetite is and how much beer you want to drink). All proceeds go to the Madison Square Park Conservancy and VH1 Save the Music.

Take a look at the list of restaurants - they include some of Gothamist's favorites, like Cucina, 12th Street Bar & Grill and Blue Ribbon in Park Slope, Williamburg's Planet Thailand, Fort Greene's Thomas Beisl , and Patois on Smith Street, and some ones we'd like to try, like 360 in Red Hook. Note for deal-hunters - Peter Luger's and River Cafe are not participating, because of the cost of their ingredients; look out for the River Cafe during NYC Restaurant Week.
