A Bronx man with a history of violence was arrested yesterday morning after he fatally stabbed his girlfriend on an apartment building terrace in front of neighbors and the police. Frederick Mendes, 53, who was taken into custody after a tense standoff in which he tried to throw his ex, Terenace Williams, 57, from a third floor terrace, was shot by the police and stabbed Williams repeatedly in public before trying to commit suicide by cop inside her apartment. more ›

A mother and her two kids have been rushed to the hospital after cops broke up a standoff in Midland Beach. Police responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. last night from 110 Hempstead Avenue, and found Victoria Olnik and her 18-month-old son sitting outside with slash wounds to their necks. Olink said her live-in boyfriend, Douglas Nemeth, attacked them and was inside with their three-year-old daughter. more ›

John Brennan was arrested after drawing a gun on sheriff's officers who had come to move items out of his 88-year-old mother's foreclosed home in Saddle Brook, NJ. His mother was unable to pay off her refinancing payments and the home was sold at auction in May. When movers and officers arrived yesterday, Brennan refused to let them into the house, wielding a .22-caliber gun. Eventually, the officers were able to calm Brennan down. Charges are pending against the 60-year-old; his mother was taken away in an ambulance. A mover told the Bergen Record, "I don't want to have any more experiences like this again." more ›
