Psychic hearts no more: the coolest couple in the world, Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, announced that they were separating after 27 years of marriage, putting the future of the long-running alternative band in jeopardy. At the very end of Sonic Youth's Williamsburg Waterfront concert in August, Moore left the crowd with this final benediction: "Anything is possible through the power of love."

Kate Winslet And Sam Mendes Split
Actress Kate Winslet was recently spotted at the Bell House in Gowanus (catching the band Beach House)—does that mean the Oscar winner will be out on the town more now that she's split up with husband Sam Mendes? A friend told the Daily News she ended it because "she felt bored. When Sam isn't working, he'd just as soon stay home. Kate loves going out." Well, the couple are separated by a decade; Mendes is 44, to Winslet's 34.
B61 Split Is On
The divorce is happening, kids. The MTA has confirmed that the rumored B61 split will take place in January next year, with one half running from Red Hook to Downtown and another from Downtown to Queens. In a statement we received, NYC Transit President Howard H. Roberts, Jr. also noted: “We recognize that there are rapidly growing new residential areas along the Williamsburg waterfront. The B62 will also provide convenient bus and subway connections for these customers to the Williamsburg Bridge Plaza transit hub which is served by six bus routes and the Marcy Avenue JMZ subway station.” The 9.7 mile long route split into two shorter ones will, allegedly, make for less delays; last year there was a 74% increase in ridership on the line, with only a 7% boost in frequency. And the MTA confirmed for us that the transfer will be free, so the trip will still "only" cost $2.25.
Jeremy Piven Avoids Penalties in Split Decision
They bought it! At a closed-door hearing yesterday in front of a committee comprised of union actors and producers' reps, Jeremy Piven was able to convince his fellow thespians that he had no choice but to quit Speed-the-Plow last December because of dangerously high mercury levels. The five actors on the panel all sided with the Runaway Jury star, while the five members of the Broadway league agreed with the show's producers, who say Piven faked mercury poisoning because he was bored and wanted to get back to sunny L.A.
