Video: Spencer Tunick Hosts The Best Dinner Parties

This weekend we were invited up to Spencer Tunick's barn in Suffern, and while we were unable to make it, two of our readers braved the rain to be part of the intimate dinner party and rock show. (Plug: sign up for our newsletter to win contests like this!) On top of a locally-sourced meal that was served up, they (and the other 37-ish people in attendance) were treated to a set by not-so-local all-girl Japanese rock band Water Fai. Luckily, some of the evening was caught on tape: more ›

Hundreds Of Montauk Monsters Wash Up On Shore!

Hundreds Of Montauk Monsters Wash Up On Shore!

Okay, not really. But Flavorwire tagged along with Spencer Tunick to get a close-up look at the nakedest beach party in the Hamptons (surely it was fun getting all that sand off at the end of the day). The photographer set the scene for his latest nude project before dawn in Montauk, and the site reported back: "Tunick went through the setups he’d be arranging for the shoot, including a horrific-sounding pose called 'The Crab.' The group of 300 or so then trekked down to the beachfront, nestled between high cliffs and the picturesque Montauk Lighthouse, for more waiting. Once dawn arrived and the clouds broke, everyone stripped down and picked their way across the rocky beach to take position." And that's how the magic happens. more ›

Spencer Tunick Snaps Naked Obama Voters in Brooklyn

Spencer Tunick Snaps Naked Obama Voters in Brooklyn

While some revelers in the East Village were celebrating Tuesday night by dancing on top of buses, Obama supporters at Soda Bar in Prospect Heights were getting all naked for change. Well, for Spencer Tunick, famed photographer of naked mobs. According to Daily Intel, "just when CNN was getting ready to call Ohio, a waitress turned off the volume, stood on a chair and made a surprising announcement: 'You thought you were here for an election-night party, but really you are here for a naked party!'" How come the parties we go to never feature such announcements? In this case, some guests were more willing than others, with Intel reporting that a Hasidic man with long sideburns and beard was surprisingly eager to strip down to his yarmulke. Good for him—we're just glad Tunick wasn't photographing a naked McCain party. more ›

No Jacket Required: Spencer Tunick at Four Seasons

Spencer Tunick and a crowd of volunteer naked people brazenly defied the dress code at the Four Seasons restaurant last Saturday for Tunick’s 75th installation documenting the human form in unexpected places. Other New York locations where Tunick's models have gone au naturale include Grand Central Station and Times Square. more ›

Photo of the Day: Living Lady Liberty

Photo of the Day: Living Lady Liberty

The above photo is a living replica of the Statue of Liberty, painstakingly recreated with 18,000 people at Camp Dodge in Des Moines, Iowa. The image is from 1918, and is one of many "living photographs" by Arthur Mole and John Thomas, who attempted to "recover the old image of national identity at the very moment when the United States entered the Great War in 1917." more ›

Reservation For Nakedness

Reservation For Nakedness

Ooh, could the hot thing in dining really be nude dining? The Daily News reported some nudists enjoy meals (but without a soup course) in the buff at a restaurant on West 38th. And they say that the city is losing its grit! A group of nudists meets once a month to have nude meals, which is totally The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie in Gothamist's book, and the meals have become very popular. Nude yoga, nude meals, what's next, nude commuting? We hope not, but if it meant a Spencer Tunick kind of world, maybe not so bad. more ›

Naked In Grand Central

Naked In Grand Central

Spencer Tunick, best known as "that guy who takes those photographs of all the naked people lying on the ground," took photographs of 450 naked women in Grand Central Terminal yesterday morning. The photo shoot was during the station's closed period, with women streaming in at 3AM. Tunick had originally asked the Museum of Natural History and NY Public Library, but they refused. Nice work, MTA, but this wasn't listed on the activites of 90th anniversary activities. The way we figure it, that's 5 naked women for each one of Grand Central's years. Not bad. Though we think at Hef's 90th, he'll have that beat. more ›

Thinking back on college, I wouldn't have picked out my old friend Bridget Mullen as being the first one to appear in New York magazine's "Scene" column, but there she is, bracketed on one side by naked photographer Spencer Tunick and gallery owner Paul Judelson. It's strange, because Bridget never went in for that kind of pretentious stuff- she stood out for that. I think the picture was taken at the Armory Show, which makes sense, because Bridget was one hell of a painter. I have no idea where she's been for the last four years, but people seem to turn up in the damnedest places. It wasn't half as much a shock as that time a couple of months back when I flipped open the New Yorker and found a naked picture of my 65 year old aunt, but still.
