"Can you feel me? Can you motherfuckin' feel me?" Adira Amram belts out on her song "Wanna Make Out," which she sings while dressed in leotards, a Betsey Johnson push-up bra and suit jacket, or other attention-getting garb while pounding away on a keyboard or piano. Amram, the daughter of composer David Amram, started out as an actress but has taken to performing her hilarious “keyboard fantasy” songs at local comedy gigs. The 25-year-old performer is at The PIT Fridays in October with her latest work, Adira Amram Is An American Idol (tagline: “Let Her Spangle Your Banner”), which is fitting for a woman with a former President’s photo on the cover of her CD, Me and Bill (North Street Records).

THEATER: The end of the Fringe Festival draws near, and the dilemma sharpens: what should you not miss? Of the shows that are still on, a good bet is Chris Harcum's http://www.chrisharcum.com/ Some Kind of Pink Breakfast, a solo comedy (but multi-character) with music by Debby Schwartz that melds '80's songs and movies with events from his own experiences, making for a hilarious yet poignant retro performance that should be a perfect way to end this year's festival. - Mallory Jensen
Deadbeat Dad Story Meets Kiss
Even though Behind the Music isn't on anymore, the NY Times has a story that proves anyone barely related to the music industry might just be insane. Jesse Hilsen, who was originally Paul Stanley's psychotherapist, became the manager of Kiss in 1988. That same year he filed bankruptcy before his divorce was finalized, which meant his wife lost her apartment and had to move into a homeless shelter on the Upper West Side. While he was paid as much as $725,000 in 1992, "[f]rom 1988 to 1994, Dr. Hilsen paid his wife and three children about $100,000 in increments of $300 a week," only to flee the country 1994. The divorce law system is so effed up. Dr. Hilsen pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge so he could keep his medical practice, but the $800,000 he still owes his wife has been waived because he pleaded guilty. Okay, the federal law system is totally effed up.
Weekend Movie Ideas
So if the heat gets to be too much for you this weekend, Gothamist suggests you escape to a nice air conditioned theater.
Movies that...Rawk
When Gothamist caught wind of the new Metallica "rockumentary" it took us about 4 seconds to sink into the nostalgia of early high school and dust off our patched up acid washed jean jacket. Posters of this foursome stuck to our walls for at least a year before being replaced with more age appropriate things. Metallica as a band remained, but personal musical tastes on our side expanded, and faster than you could say "Napster" they were no longer a part of our daily musical diet. They cut their hair, we grew out our perm and moved away from the metal genre. Still, Metallica only comes second to NIN when a need for downtrodden lyrics and pissed off chords (or motivation for the gym) comes up.
