Staten Island Scofflaws Said To Steal Smurfs Schwag!

Staten Island Scofflaws Said To Steal Smurfs Schwag!

Smurf week may be over, but those little blue creatures aren't quite ready to leave the spotlight yet. And we aren't talking about the recently announced sequel. Three disgruntled employees of a Staten Island event-production company, Everything Entertainment, have been charged with looting loads of Smurf-themed schwag in the week before the movie's premiere. more ›

Video: Smurf Week Ends With Ritual Smurf Beheading By Harrison Ford

Even though Smurf Week is officially done terrorizing the city, the anti-Smurf sentiment continues to grow, with none other than Harrison Ford himself pouring out a nice, tall glass of Haterade on last night's Conan. more ›

Review: For Better Or Worse, The Smurfs Movie Is A New York Movie

Review: For Better Or Worse, The Smurfs Movie Is A New York Movie

As the angry Smurf in Columbus Circle portended earlier this week: The Smurfs have arrived in town, and they brought a 3D movie with them. We saw it, and it is pretty much exactly the corny joke-filled, blue-toned combination of Enchanted and Alvin and the Chipmunks that you expected/feared. The little ones will love it, and the grownups will be grateful that it is less than an hour and a half (86 minutes!). La-la-la-la-la-la-sing-a-happy-song. We could sit here and list the movie's few charms (Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris, the CGI cat that steals the movie) and its many, many, many grating uses of the word "smurf" ("Smurftamistic," "Pessasmurftic," the awful "Smurf This Way" Guitar Hero version of "Walk This Way") but that is like shooting little blue fish in a little blue barrel. Instead we'd like to take a minute to point out the one thing the movie does surprisingly not badly: New York City. more ›

Click through for some photos—and if you see the movie, look out for a cameo by NY1's Roger Clark, as well as Prospect Park, where most of the Central Park scenes were filmed! But let's take our remaining time here to focus on Neil Patrick Harris... more ›

Smurfs Lawyer Is A Real Gargamel

As the Smurfs movie films around town, lawyer Stuart Ross—who has made a pretty penny from the blue guys in the past—is behind bars. Ross introduced the lovable blue creatures to the U.S. (they were previously only in France before he bought their rights), according to the Daily News—but in reality is more like their nemesis Gargamel. more ›

Smurfs Leave Their Village For NYC

It's time to talk Smurfs. The blue creatures who entertained us many a Saturday morning are headed to the big screen, and the movie is currently filming far far away from Smurf Village, right here in NYC. One source explained to the Post, "The Smurfs fall through a portal and end up in Central Park, and Gargamel [Hank Azaria], who's chasing them, follows. Neil Patrick Harris is running in Central Park. The Smurfs end up sneaking into his backpack." more ›

    Hollywood Takeover At The NYPL

Thinking of going to the New York Public Library's main branch today? They just updated their Facebook page with photos of the cast and crew of The Adjustment Bureau taking over the Rose Reading Room, so you may have trouble finding a seat. On Friday they had updated saying, "today the NYPL prepared for The Adjustment Bureau filming happening this weekend; finalized Gossip Girl details for next week; and had a 2 hour Smurf walkthrough. Needless to say, that Hollywood left NO time for updates today." (Smurfs!) more ›

Which Smurf is the New Macy's Balloon Modeled After?

Which Smurf is the New Macy's Balloon Modeled After?

Some people were scratching their heads when Macy's announced that one of three new Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons would be a giant Smurf--especially since the popular 80's Saturday morning cartoon hasn't aired in almost 20 years. Though a press release said that Macy's was "thrilled to help the Smurfs celebrate their 50th anniversary," it might have something more to do with the live-action Alvin & the Chipmunks-style movie treatment being given to the Smurfs for the next holiday season. But which Smurf was that balloon today supposed to be? During CBS's parade coverage, speculation ran towards it being Baby Smurf, but where's Baby's onesie? Despite a resemblance to both, he's a little too on-the-go to be either Lazy or Dreamy Smurf. Could it be Jokey Smurf--running from his latest prank? It's just not right about referring to it simply as "Smurf"--the poor little guys are already Communist enough. more ›
