[Update Below] Though Sunday afternoon's strange skywriting art project confused a lot of people, most of them were over it by Monday morning. But not all of them! Artist Kim Beck's stunt went and made one dependably angry Councilman, well, angry. Peter Vallone, Jr. (D-Queens)—hater of graffiti, unsightly security gates, pit bulls, homework and so much more—thought the whole thing was "plain stupid—no pun intended."

So, why was the sky offering you a "Last Chance" yesterday? Art, of course. For about two hours yesterday (starting a little after 4 p.m.), the sky above Lower Manhattan displayed a series of somewhat confusing skywritten messages like "Last Chance" and "Now Open," but don't fear, it wasn't the work of a depressed skywriter. No, the messages were a part of an art project called "The Sky Is The Limit/NYC" by Kim Beck and sponsored by the Friends of the High Line. Which is to say, messages like "Lost Our Lease" were not technically related to the ongoing occupation of Occupy Wall Street!
It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's... Marketing!
If you see a giant V in the sky on Friday, fear not, it's just the big wigs in Hollywood trying to get you to watch a new television show about aliens. Reportedly "The network is mum on where and when the V's will strike, but such places as the Statue of Liberty are under consideration. The skywriting will be done multiple times a day at each site until the series launch." Yes, television people, it is a great idea to "secretly" send a small aircraft spouting out gas over major landmarks in New York City.
