Over at The Frenemy, a very angry young woman writes: "I’ve been out of college with a writing degree for almost a year now. I moved to NYC to pursue writing... but something’s been bothering me. Carrie Bradshaw, you gotta be tripping balls to have us believe that you can sustain yourself that extravagantly on that one stupid-ass column. You lying bitch! It’s a cruel joke! It hurts my feelings! You dream crushing, bone-crushing bitch." Stop trying to pretend that you can live in New York and have this overly successful life based on writing alone." (How can a pretend person pretend? The mind reels!)
Young Writer Moves To NYC, Discovers Carrie Bradshaw Was A Fictional Character
SJP White-Knuckling Onto Sex And The City Franchise
Sarah Jessica Parker will not let Blake Lively steal her thunder, once the Sex and the City prequel starring the much younger vixen is out, the real Carrie wants back in. The LA Times says she's not willing to give up on it, and in a recent interview the actress said, "I would go back. I think there's one more story to tell. I know there is." (Like that one about beating a dead horse?) "I'd definitely tell that [third] story. But maybe not now. Maybe in five years, you know?" Yes, after five years of moisturizing.
SJP Regrets Sex Sequel
Well this is an interesting publicity route: Sex and the City starlet Sarah Jessica Parker told the London Daily Mail that she regrets signing on for the Sex sequel! She says her work schedule has cut the amount of time she has with her surrogate-borne 4-month-old twins, Tabitha and Marion. She told them: "One [baby] would prefer to be held 24 hours a day, and the other is already suffering from type A issues. It's been amazing but complicated because of my current work schedule, which I have enormous regrets about." [via Village Voice]
Gwyneth Hates NY, SJP Loves Brooklyn
Has the world gone mad? Gwyneth Paltrow, who once loved NYC (but lately has soured on America), is calling Spain her second home. In a recent interview she said, "Here in the United States an old building is about 17 (years old), and over there it's from 500 B.C. It's incredible." Celebs do tend to be anti-development. She also noted that people enjoy life more there, as opposed to New Yorkers, who run around too much punching the keys on their BlackBerries. Meanwhile, Miss Manhattan herself, Sarah Jessica Parker might be moving to Brooklyn! Rumor has it that her and the family may have purchased Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany's double-wide, 9-bedroom townhouse at 17 Prospect Park West (pictured). Don't worry Manhattan, you'll still have Madonna and her chickens.
Reality Television Tackles Art World
Reality television will soon confront its latest victim: art. Bravo is now casting for "The Untitled Art Project," which brings Sarah Jessica Parker and her production company, Pretty Matches, together with the Emmy-nominated Magical Elves ("Top Chef," "Project Runway") and Eli Holzman, to produce an hour long creative competition series among contemporary artists. It's just like how all the great artists were discovered. There will be thirteen total aspiring artists competing for a gallery show, money, and more. Each episode will have the artists creating "unique pieces highlighting art's role in everyday life" in everything from sculpture to photography. Get your portfolio together and your beret perfectly situation atop your head, the NYC casting call is July 18th and 19th at White Columns.
(Not All) Women Love Sex
Hollywood is apparently shocked that women can affect box office sales; Variety notes that after Sex and the City opened this weekend to the tune of $55.7 million, it shattered "decades-old thinking that females -- particularly older ones --can’t fuel the sort of big opening often enjoyed by a male-driven event pic or family movie." Way to go ladies?
More Disappointed by Sex
The Sex and the City movie is causing more trouble today, officially making it as controversial as "a Taliban recruitment video," at least according to Jeffrey Wells's scathing review.
Sex Premiere Causes Commotion in the City
Though the trailer echoed the sentiment that "Brooklyn is the new Manhattan," and SJP herself called the outer boroughs "desirable," last night the Sex and the City movie premiere took place smack dab in the middle of town at Radio City Music Hall.
Sex Gets Pre-Release Ink
Consider it official, it's Sex and the City month; be prepared to read about the movie up until, and past, its May 30th big screen debut. The ink's been bought by the barrell to promote this release, and even columnist Carrie Bradshaw herself never penned this many words about s-e-x during her career.
