-Yankees 12, Devil Rays 4: For eight innings, the margin of victory would have been more than the Yanks' magic number, which dropped to nine with the win. Hideki Matsui returned, went 4-for-4 with a walk and Mike Mussina pitched effectively. Both develepments should make Yankees fans smile. Some might have tuned out though, since Bobby Abreu knocked in six runs during a nine-run Yankees first inning.

-Yankees 9 Orioles 4: Sal Fasano became a Yankee because of his defense and not his hitting, but on Sunday he showed that he has some offensive skills too. Fasano went 2-4 with a three-run homer as New York cruised to an easy victory.

-Yankees 2 Mets 0: Are the Mets simply picking the wrong time to slump, or is the American League just that much better than the National League? It’s a legitimate question after the Yankees held the Mets to only one hit and increased their losing streak to four games. While Mets’ fans have been eager to draw parallels to 1986 this year, they should remember that winning the World Series requires beating the team from the American League.
