Kingswood: Aussie owner of Nolita's Ruby's takes the leap from sandwich shop to sit-down restaurant. Broken Sewer Behind West 17th Street Sinkhole
Why did a patch of West 17th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues give way under the weight a sanitation truck? It turns out there was a broken sewer. We wonder if the sewer had recently broken or if the Department of Environmental Protection knew about it but was waiting for the street to fall in.
Pedestrian Street Fatalities in Brooklyn and Manhattan
Yesterday, two pedestrian fatalities were noted on the Newsmap - one in Brooklyn and one in midtown Manhattan. The Brooklyn incident involved an elderly woman trying to cross 65th Street near 23rd Avenue at 11AM when she was hit by a van. Then around noon, Pedro Rodriguez, was crushed by a box truck's rear wheels on 44th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Rodriguez, who worked as a housekeeper at the Algonquin Hotel down the street, seemed to stumble toward the truck. Police deemed both incidents accidents and no summons were issued.

The Daily News says that calendar's cover boy is Mark DeRosa from Ladder 18 on Pitt Street: He's 22, single, from Staten Island and "auditioned half as a joke and half-seriously, but I'm proud to be part of it."
Push-in Bandits
A pair of robbers has been terrorizing residents in Gramercy Park, East Village and Chelsea. Their M.O. is to watch people entering their apartments or knock on their doors and then force their way in. They demand cash, cellphones, and sometimes drugs, leading police to believe they are junkies. The Post notes the locations of the robberies:
