Video: Mets Fans Audition to Sing National Anthem
The Yankees aren’t the only team cycling through national anthem singers: Yesterday more than a hundred people waited at Citi Field, all auditioning to be the Mets’s official game opener. Those assembled were young and old, with try-out pieces ranging from operatic to ecclesiastical. Jeremy Eye said he “froze up” while singing “How to Save a Life” by The Fray, but still felt “pretty good.” Auditions to join Mr. Mets’s entourage were also held on Monday. According to the Daily News, the Mets will choose several different singers to perform the anthem before their 81 home games this season. Opera Star Charged With Disorderly Conduct After Restaurant Row
A sexy South American opera singer who behaved like a real diva in an Upper West Side restaurant is due in court today to face charges of trespassing, theft of service, and disorderly conduct. It all started when diners at restaurant Nice Matin complained that soprano Gabriela Pochinki was carrying on a noisy cell phone conversation via speakerphone. Met Opera Singer's Son Stabbed to Death in Queens
The teenage son of a Metropolitan Opera singer was fatally stabbed a few blocks from Elmhurst Hospital in Queens on Monday night during a confrontation with a gang of ten thugs believed to part of the Latin Kings gang. Nicholas Donaldi-Subero, 18, had gone to Queens from his mother's Upper East Side apartment to pick up his date; around 6 p.m.—about a block away from the 82nd Street-Jackson Heights 7 station—he was approached by the teen gang, who believed him responsible for a recent stabbing of one of their own. Donaldi-Subero's family deny it, but police say he was a member of rival gang, ABK, Always Banging Kings, and he was arrested three times in the past six months. His mother, alto Maria Donaldi, tells the Daily News, "he was the sweetest kid. I don't know about gang affiliation. Kids can be sneaky, but I'm the last to know."

Yoav, Musician
London-based solo musician Yoav is a singer/songwriter who works hard to go beyond the usual “man with a guitar” conventions. By looping beats created with his voice and acoustic guitar, his songs are often inflected with an unusual drum 'n' bass flavor. His debut album Charmed & Strange crystallizes this aesthetic with an effect he describes as “DJ-ing with my guitar.” Yoav plays Mercury Lounge Saturday night at 7:30; tickets cost $10.
