Things got a little ugly since the Golden Globes fell victim to the writers' strike. Here are two quotes from both sides of the picket line:

ART: Art, fashion and blogs meet tonight at the Met. In an exhibition entitled blog.mode: addressing fashion, viewers will be able to comment on what they see. It's "the first in a series of shows designed to promote critical and creative dialogues about fashion. The exhibition presents some forty costumes and accessories dating from the eighteenth century to the present." Visitors are then encouraged to share their reactions online or from a "blogbar" of computer terminals in the exhibition galleries. Margaret Cho returns to the stage in a whole new way with her stage show The Sensuous Woman. The production is at the Zipper Theater starting tomorrow (more details here) and is bringing burlesque back. PARTY: Nostalgic for the Blackout of 2003? Someone has put together an event that will recapture the night of no lights so we can all enjoy it once again (with reassuring knowledge that the contents of the fridge aren't melting back at home). Stain's blackout party will be complete with candles, canned goods, beer, a battery-run boombox, board games, grilling and other non-electricity-dependent activities.

Last night Beverly Sills lost her battle with lung cancer, she died at her home in Manhattan at the age of 78. While she was a lifelong non-smoker and only found out about the cancer a few weeks ago, this wasn't her first experience with it - she underwent a successful surgery for cancer in 1974.

Usually, if you want to see Brian Posehn you need to wait for a repeat of Just Shoot Me, Mr. Show, or The Sarah Silverman Program to come on, but on April 19th through 22nd you can head on over to Caroline's to get your Posehn fix. Gothamist decided to do a quick Q and A with Brian to find out what this comedy super star thinks of some of life's biggest issues, like religion, death, and balls.

At 7AM, the three detectives indicted in the shooting of Sean Bell last November turned themselves. WNBC reports that Michael Oliver, Gescard Isnora, and Marc Cooper will be fingerprinted and processed before their arraignment this afternoon.

We interviewed co-owner of Luna Lounge Rob Sacher in 2004, and he told a little story about Elliott Smith (who wrote his album XO at the bar at Luna). The story starts out, "Before I knew who Elliott Smith was, I knew him as this very quiet guy that had discovered the bar (at Luna) and would stay there till closing or near closing most nights, writing constantly in a journal with some kind of dark whiskey drink on the rocks or straight-up in front of him; he always had some kind of bourbon or something like that in front of him. THEATER: The Impact Festival and fall at the Culture Project get started in a big way with the world premiere of The Treatment, which starts previews tonight. Add together playwright Eve Ensler (of Vagina Monologues fame), stars Dylan McDermott and Portia, director Leigh Silverman, and a sharply topical play about a traumatized soldier who saw and took part in too much for his psyche to handle when he was a military interrogator, and you've got all the makings of a must-see. - Mallory Jensen

Set your TiVo's, kids. "Celebrity Cooking Showdown" is scheduled for the week of April 17th on NBC. This week-long competition pits various "celebrities" against each other in a culinary smackdown of sorts, judged by food critic Gael Greene and high-end event planner Colin Cowie. The motley crew of celebs includes Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez, Ja Rule, Tom Arnold, Gabrielle Reece, Days of Our Lives' Allison Sweeney, supermodel Naomi Campbell, reigning Miss USA Chelsea Cooley and country singer Big Kenny. The show is hosted by none other than Alan Thicke from Growing Pains and the Food Network's Sandra Lee (who hosts Semi-Homemade, not high on the Gothamist love-list) will host the show (at least she's not judging).

Somehow, Peter Braunstein has pleaded not guilty to the various crimes committed when he 1) set fires in an apartment building, 2) posed as a firefighter, and 3) molested a co-worker for thirteen hours. We can only begin to speculate why his beautiful blond lawyer is agreeing to go along with this, but Gothamist is sure that Braunstein is itching for a long, drawn-out trial with loads of media coverage. He's probably going to be going to jail for a long time, so what does he have to lose?

We’ve already expressed our sentiments on controversial comic Sarah Silverman, whose racist, off-colored jokes often shock you into laughter or completely offend you. Silverman’s new movie, Jesus is Magic, combines her outrageous-character driven and hilariously distasteful standup routine with comedy sketches and poppy (though lukewarm funny) Adam Sandler-esque musical numbers, boasting such lyrics as “I love you more than Jews love money/ I love you more than Asians are good at math.”

We finally had a chance to read this week's New Yorker profile of Sarah Silverman, and it was excellent. Lots of great Sarah Silverman facts-- for instance, she's lived in LA for about 10 years (that confused us, because her brand of black comedy seems so New York), and that she wet the bed well into high school (TMI?) The article really heats up towards the end, when it starts exploring her jokes about race and racism. In the interests of continuing our discussion about race here on Gothamist, check a few of them out:

It was a great sign for Jets fans, but (unlike the Redskins) it probably had absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the pending election - other than making several thousand New Yorkers stay up a bit late.

So much for going to bed early. Sixteen hours after the end of their last game, the Yankees and Red Sox met up again for game 5 of the AL Championship Series and for the second night in a row, it went to extra innings. Last night, however, the game ran into the 14th inning and was the longest game time-wise in postseason baseball history at 5 hours 49 minutes.

Clearly, we were looking to work in some homonyms today. Too bad they aren't playing the Twins anymore. Anyway, last night, the Yankees defeated the Red Sox, 31 (box score). The Yankees now lead the best of seven series two games to none. While Pedro Martinez has proclaimed the Yankees are his daddies, his performance last night wasn't all that bad. He threw for six innings, giving up four hits and three runs. His counterpart on the Yankees pitched superbly.

Don't look now, but the Giants won again. They had a 95-yard touchdown drive on offense. At the end of the game they took a knee to run out the clock. We can't even remember the last time the Giants took a knee.
