See, not all dog fights have to do with dogs off-leash. Some dog owners on the Upper East Side are arguing about an incident where leashes were problematic. The Post reports that Alida Rubin is suing Eva Karasthasis for "ignoring her warnings and approaching her and Punim, her Shih Tzu, causing the dog to tangle her in the leash and landing her on the sidewalk on Sutton Place."

Rubin said she told Karastathis to keep her dog away from Punim, who is not canine-friendly. "My dog thinks she's number one in the neighborhood," said Rubin.

This has not been a good week for Shi Tzus. On Wednesday, one was mauled by a Rottweiler in a Queens park, and now, it turns out a Brooklyn dog groomer "fried" a Shih Tzu to death under a doggie hair dryer. The Post reports that 8 year old Zoe De Toro and her mom Tina dropped off their dog Phoebe at the Brooklyn Zoo and Aquarium, only to later get a call saying that their dog was dead. It seems that Phoebe overheated, and when Tina Del Toro got Phoebe's remains in a box, the box was warm. Del Toro wants to get the pet store closed, "This beautiful, sweet, loving dog was roasted. I won't be happy unless there's a vacant sign in this window." State Senator Carl Kruger is sponsoring legislation to make sure dog groomers are licensed and monitored by the state, which means groomers aren't licenser and monitored by the state? Hmm.

Matthew Connolly was carrying his little Shih Tzu Rosalita near Frank Principe Park when a 100 pound Rottweiler charged them and started to chomp on Rosalita. And then the Rottweiler turned to Connolly's arm when he tried to push the big dog away. Two auto mechanics nearby got the Rottweiler away, by using carburator spray and sticks. Witnesses described the 2 year old Rottweiler as "ripping out" Connolly's arm and were upset the dog wasn't on a leash. The Daily News reports that Rottweiler's owner, Philip Simon, was given a summons for walking his dog without a leash - and that the dog apparently gets along with Simon's 10 month old son!

Man, if this Chelsea cutie is having a hard time finding a lady, what hope is there for the rest of us? Maybe he should try Dogster-- they've got a Shih Tzu group in Park Slope.

The New York Times takes apart the city's doggie census and analyzes it using animal ownership information to gain insights into New Yorkers. Reporter Susan Saulny notes the variations of dogs in different areas with much humor: "For instance, who would be most likely to own Lucy, a cute little Shih Tzu? (Hint: Lucy often wears her long hair in a high ponytail above her eyes, fastened with a little pink bow.) Thinking, thinking. Someone from ZIP code 10021, you say, on the Upper East Side? That would be correct."
