Yesterday, Robert Chambers was sentenced to 19 years in prison, after accepting a deal to plead guilty to selling cocaine and assaulting a police officer last October. This is four years longer than he was sentenced to for the 1986 killing of Jennifer Levin in Central Park, which was later dubbed the Preppie Murder. Police had also arrested Chambers's girlfriend Shawn Kovell, who was released shortly after pleading guilty. Prosecutors were unhappy the loyal Kovell (she waited for him to be released from previous prison stints) showed up at Chambers's sentencing; ADA Dan Rather Jr. said, "She's apparently wandering around the city without an escort."

In a change of plans, Robert Chambers decided to accept a plea deal and pleaded guilty to charges of selling cocaine and assaulting an officer during an undercover drug sting last year. Police had found Chambers, who gained infamy in NYC as the "Preppy Killer" for killing Jennifer Levin in 1986, and his girlfriend selling cocaine in her apartment.

Robert Chambers, the infamous Preppy Killer who was busted last fall for dealing drugs to undercover cops, is going to use a "psychiatric 'poly-substance abuse' defense." His lawyer Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg told a judge, "He did not act knowingly" because he was so influenced by drugs.

Shawn Kovell, who was arrested in an undercover drug sting in October, was released from jail yesterday to head into a drug treatment program. She was able to get out by making a deal with the Manhattan DA's office: Kovell pleaded guilty to charges that she sold cocaine with her boyfriend, Robert Chambers, the infamous "Preppy Killer" in the 1986 death of Jennifer Levin. Kovell was originally held on $25,000 bail, and Kovell's lawyer had...

Were the police surveillance photographs of Shawn Kovell's apartment what set her landlord off? Or was it the fact that she and boyfriend Robert Chambers had been arrested by undercover cops for allegedly selling drugs out of the East 57th Street apartment? Apparently it was something more simple. The couple wasn't able to make the rent. Chambers, infamous to New Yorkers as the Preppy Killer after he admitted to the 1986 strangling Jennifer Levin in...

Facing numerous drug charges that could put him away for the rest of his life, convicted murderer Robert Chambers pleaded not guilty during a Thursday court appearance. Chambers, 41, and his companion, 39-year-old Shawn Kovell, are accused of selling drugs from Kovell's rent-stabilized one-bedroom apartment on East 57th Street in Manhattan. Earlier this week, the couple were busted by undercover officers.

The NYPD released surveillance photographs from the drug buys that ultimately landed Preppy Killer Robert Chambers and his girlfriend Shawn Kovell in jail. These photographs were taken in the couple's East 57th Street rent-stabilized one-bedroom - looks like they may have spray painted Shawn's name onto a door or wall

Robert Chambers, whose privileged Upper East upbringing earned the tabloid nickname "The Preppy Killer" when he killed a woman in 1986, was charged with 14 counts of selling and possessing drugs. Since two of the counts are for first-degree sale, which the Daily News reports carries 15-30 years, Manhattan DA Robert Morgenthau said, "I would expect he would spend the rest of his life in jail."

You'd think that if you were one of the city's most notorious murderers, you'd try to keep a low profile. But apparently Robert Chambers, the infamous Preppy Killer, thinks a low profile means selling drugs from an East 57th Street Manhattan apartment.
