In 2008 the State passed a law called the Electronic Security and Targeting of Online Predators Act (e-STOP) which is meant, among other things, to help restrict sex offenders' Internet use. Last year the State used to law to purge 3,533 offenders off of sites like Facebook and MySpace. And now e-STOP is all grown up. This week cops busted 31-year-old Feliz Ortiz for violating the law after he allegedly told cops he didn't have any internet accounts (he had logins on Gmail, AOL, Facebook and MySpace). So what's his prize? If convicted Ortiz, who was serving a 10-year-probation for promoting a sexual performance by a child in 2008, could get up to four years in prison. more ›

With all the horror stories about sexual predators trolling the Internet for young victims, Governor Paterson signed legislation requiring convicted sexual offenders to register their screen names with the state.
