As Brooklyn Sex Assaults Continue, Free Self-Defense Classes Are Booming

With the scumbag or scumbags behind a string of sexual assaults in South Brooklyn still roaming the streets, more women are getting ready to defend themselves. Cops have made a couple of arrests, but investigators believe several suspects are responsible, and over the weekend the official tally of assaults that fit the pattern was raised to 20. On Sunday, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn joined dozens of other women for a free self-defense class organized by the Center for Anti-Violence Education. Police Hunt Man Attacking Women Leaving Subway

After three women reported they were sexually assaulted after leaving subway stations in Queens, the police have released a sketch of the man suspected of the two attacks. In both instances, the man allegedly tried to start a conversation first and then grabbed them from behind in the early morning hours. Worries Over Sexual Assaults in Borough Park

The police believe a recent sexual assault on a young girl is connected to another assault from last Year. A few week ago, a 14-year-old was walking on 41st Street and 12th Avenue when, according to NY1, "the suspect came up from behind her and forced her into the vehicle," drove her to a location where he assaulted her. She was able to fight him off and was left at Fort Hamilton Parkway and 36th Street. The 2007 attack occurred when a man took a 4-year-old girl off her stoop, assaulted her, and then dropped her off. Assemblyman Dov Hikind is offering a $20,000 reward; the suspect is described as a white male, in his early 20s, with a thin build and short, spiky black hair, who drives a black or dark colored four-door sedan with tinted windows and a beige interior. more ›

Police Do Not Have Queens Serial Rape Suspect

While there are some reports that police were questioning a suspect involved in a series of rapes in Queens, the police say they are actually questioning a 15-year-old suspected of "forcibly touching" a woman last month. Residents in southeastern Queens have been worried after 14 sexual assaults have occurred since last November, and police believe two different men are behind them. One is suspected of targeting women near bus stops while another seems to prey on women near alleys or abandoned buildings. more ›
