How did we miss this? Last week, City Hall News had an interview with State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno and it included this photograph of Bruno boxing! Bruno is, of course, riding relatively high as Governor Spitzer's reputation is tainted in the wake of Troopergate, and Bruno can play the unwitting victim of Spitzer's aides dirty tricks plotting.

Whoa: Attorney General Andrew Cuomo released a report investigating allegations that Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno misused state aircraft, using it to travel to political fund-raisers, as well as Bruno's subsequent allegations that Governor Spitzer misused the state resources to spy on him. The report clears Bruno of wrongdoing, noting that the Republican was conducting state business and could justify using state aircraft.
Okay, this might be the official nadir of the Governor Eliot Spitzer-Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno fight. The Post exclusively reports that a furious Spitzer called Bruno an "old, senile piece of s---t". Swear words and ageism!
The fight between Governor Eliot Spitzer and Senate Majority Joseph Bruno gets more and more unbelievable. Yesterday, Bruno claimed that the Times Union, the Albany newspaper, tried to shake him down for money and today the Post says Spitzer had Bruno tailed by the state police! Hopefully the next news will be that the Legislature is selling tickets to a fight in the boxing ring.
There had been a few news reports about State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno's granddaughter being missing, starting last week. Yes, it's missing white girl season, but when the granddaughter of the guy who controls the State Senate goes missnig, you've got a movie plot at the very least. Earlier this week, Rachel Bruno finally emerged and called her mother, saying she was fine though the call sounded suspicious. Yesterday, the NYPD found her in Times Square, and the NYPD arrested the man they believe she was with. The NYPD didn't arrest John Savage for kidnapping Rachel Bruno, as the circumstances of their relationship were unclear, but they did arrest him for violating his probation (more on that later). It seems that the NY Post was alerted to a craigslist posting in Albany for "'Stephine,' who offered 'a pleasurable time' for '250 roses per half hour'" - and the photograph in the posting had a woman who looked like Rachel. So the Post contacted Senator Bruno's office, and the police jumped in, tracing Rachel's phone call to NYC (she used Savage's cellphone; the two left the Albany area after media attention that she was missing). She was taken back to her parents and Senator Bruno's office released a statement:
Rachel’s physical and emotional problems placed her in a dangerous and threatening situation, the outcome of which could have been much worse. This was compounded by her susceptibility to other harmful substances and dangerous influences, particularly those online, and people who use the Internet to prey on the vulnerable. The Daily News reports that Rachel and Savage met on MySpace. Savage's probation comes after he tried to bribe police officers in 2002 for the scoop on prostituation sweeps, saying, "You know we have a new mayor and police commissioner and they are going to start cracking down on prostitution. They are hitting me hard. Whatever you and your man can do for me I'll pay you money if you let me know when they're coming out to pick up the hoes."

As if things couldn't get worse for Jeanine Pirro, State Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno has told the Westchester County DA to get out of the race for US Senate. Pirro has been fighting an uphill battle ever since her campaign started with a flub and the more recent news that her fundraising has been less than stellar. In his statement, Bruno said:
"I have said from the beginning, and I know a lot of my colleagues, and people within the party, share the thought, that she would make a great attorney general. By background, by her experience, by her prosecutorial record. And I hope that before this procedure gets too much further, that Jeanine Pirro would reconsider and run for A.G."Ouch! But it seems like Bruno is just stating the obvious - Westchester DA to state attorney general, makes sense to us. In response to Bruno's statement, Pirro released a short statement, "Senator Bruno is a respected majority leader and I appreciate his confidence in my abilities. However, I am a candidate for U.S. Senate." We wonder if Pirro will be sending Senator Bruno a Christmas card this year.
