After admitting that they were hacked yesterday, Gawker Media sites are now running an alert at the top of their sites about the breach of their 1+ million commenters' usernames and passwords with a link to how commenters can change their passwords, adding, "We understand how important trust is on the internet, and we're deeply sorry for and embarrassed about this breach of security—and of trust." The purported hackers, who also took over Gawker's content management system, said, "You would think a site that likes to mock people, such as Gawker, would have better security and actually have a clue what they are doing. But as we’ve proven, those who think they are beyond our reach aren’t as safe as they would like to think!"
Hacker: Gawker Has "Possibly The Worst Security" Ever
Guess Who's Not Afraid Of iPad Email Breach? Bloomberg!
Yesterday, Gawker found that a "security breach has exposed iPad owners including dozens of CEOs, military officials, and top politicians. They—and every other buyer of the cellular-enabled tablet—could be vulnerable to spam marketing and malicious hacking." But a certain billionaire mayor isn't so concerned!
Another Lover Breaches Airport Security
Looks like someone pulled a Haisong Jiang at JFK airport, brazenly scoffing at security measures in the name of love... or partying... or both. According to the NY Post, 22-year-old Niklas Ollij Ramo tried sneaking through a screening checkpoint yesterday around noon after witnesses say he made the following announcement: "I'm here to party! I'm here to fall in love!" (Love Actually, anyone?) What he got was cuffed and ordered to the ground at gunpoint, which (for some!) is far less romantic. He's currently under observation at Jamaica Hospital, and has been charged with resisting arrest.
Newark Security Breacher Pleads Guilty
The 28-year-old hopeless romantic Haisong Jiang, who knew no (security) boundaries when he was torn apart from his girlfriend at Newark Airport, was back in court today. In January Jiang slipped by a TSA agent in the airport, shutting down Terminal C for six hours as authorities searched for him. The Rutgers grad student has now apologized and pleaded guilty to breaching security in order to give his lady love one last kiss before she boarded a plane. He says, “I feel guilty about this. I’m trying to apologize for any inconvenience caused by my mistake. It’s a big mistake.”
Fat Cat Security Breach At Newark
The latest Newark Airport security breacher? A kitty! The 25-pounder lodged itself under a bomb-detection machine yesterday morning, causing other passengers to be directed to a different security screening area.
Latest Newark Airport Security Breach: Wine Bottles
The Transportation Security Administration says that a security breach that closed down Newark Airport for one hour on Monday was caused by a passenger with suspicious objects in his bag who managed to bypass a second round of screening and apparently board his plane. The Star-Ledger reports, The man, who was never located, had what appeared on the X-ray to be wine bottles."
Newark Airport's Hopeless Romantic Pleads Not Guilty
The 28-year-old Rutgers grad student that froze time at Newark Airport last month after breaching security to give his girlfriend a kiss before boarding... has finally had his (first) day in court. Haisong Jiang was charged with defiant trespass after a surveillance video showed him slipping into a secured area; a move that shut down terminal C and delayed hundreds of travelers on January 3rd.
Sexist, Racist Air Cops Hinder Anti-Terror Efforts
Inside sources suggest that it's not naps or kisses that are putting our nation's airspace in danger, but a "toxic environment" created by federal air marshals. More than 85 current or former sky cops in nearly all of the country's field offices have reported distractions from their anti-terror mission, in the form of "intimidation, retaliation, discrimination against women, minorities, the disabled [and] gays." Morale is low, and the agency is also dangerously understaffed.
JFK Security Breacher Just "Looking for a Cab"
The Haitian evacuee who caused a massive meltdown at JFK Saturday afternoon when he strolled through a door into a secure area says he was "lost" and "just looking for a cab." Jules Bouloute told police he didn't see the no entry sign. "I was looking for the entrance to find a taxi [and] somebody told me to go through the door," he said, according to court papers. "I went through and the alarm went off." Bouloute—who escaped from earthquake-devastated Haiti via the Dominican Republic—may have been a bit distracted, but should he pay for the cost and inconvenience he inflicted on passengers, staff and the state?
Haitian Evacuee The Culprit in JFK Security Breach
A Haitian evacuee has been arrested for shirking security protocol at JFK, causing hours-long delay in terminal 8. Yesterday afternoon 57-year-old Jules Bouloute walked through a door that led to a restricted area, setting off an alarm. The terminal was evacuated and passengers waited for hours to be re-screened. Bouloute, who narrowly escaped Haiti after Tuesday’s earthquake, is now facing threats of a legal nature.
Security Breach at JFK, Terminal 8 Evacuated
A terminal at JFK airport has been evacuated due to a security breach similar to the one at Newark Airport last week. NBC reported that at 4 p.m. today a passenger was able to enter a secure area without being properly screened. Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority, said that Terminal 8 was shut down and all passengers were forced to leave and go through screening again, according to AP. He didn’t describe details about the breach. One of our readers, at the airport, told us: "Exiting terminal at JFK due to security breach. Heard flight attendant say 'he got on the plane.'"
Newark Airport Kisser Wants Help from China
The “romantic” New Jersey grad student who caused massive delays at Newark airport when he ducked through security to kiss his girlfriend will receive legal help from the Chinese consulate. “Consular official Wang Bangfu said the consulate has been following the case of 28-year-old Haisong Jiang closely since he was arrested and charged with trespassing January 3rd ,” reported the AP. The Chinese citizen's act of love caused delays to over a hundred flights and stranded thousands of passengers in the airport for hours. He faces up to thirty days in prison and will be arraigned on January 28 in Newark.
Newark "Trespasser" Found, Charged
The man who caused major delays at Newark Airport this past Sunday after being spotted by a bystander ducking under some ropes, to be with his lady friend, has been captured. 28-year-old Haisong Jiang (a molecular bioscientist-in-training) was taken into custody last night, according to the NY Times. The Port Authority said he is being charged with defiant trespass (he was released earlier today).
Video: Newark "Trespasser" Was Chasing After Girlfriend
Remember when that guy shut down a terminal at Newark Airport after entering a secure area unauthorized... and then caused thousands upon thousands to be trapped there with delayed flights? Would it make you feel better if it all happened in the name of love?
Even if You're a TSA Screener, You Need a Plane Ticket
Another reassuring tale of airport security. At JFK Airport yesterday, an airport security screener was able to board a plane - without a ticket. Apparently the man wanted to go the United Arab Emirates to see off his parents, so somehow he managed to board an Etihad Airways flights without a ticket or boarding pass. And, according to the AP, "when the plane's doors shut, [he] told a flight attendant what he had done." We...
