A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death inside the Flatiron club Duvet early Friday morning. Shamel McKinsey stumbled outside and collapsed outside on West 21st street, "blood gushing from his wounds, just after 3:30 a.m.," according to the Daily News. McKinsey, who had an arrest record for drug possession with intent to sell, was pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Hospital. Police suspect that McKinsey may have been partying with the rapper Fabolous at Duvet,...

NYC & Co better update their marketing materials, because New York City has a new name...The Big Onion. At least that's what Stephon Marbury is calling New York these days. While professing his love of yesterday's NY Post cover (we can't argue with him), Marbury e-mailed The Post, "I must say the front page of The Post has to be the funniest thing I have ever seen in a long time. I'm sitting on...
Knicks 97 Minnesota 93: Isiah Thomas was booed when he was introduced before the game, but the rest of the Knicks were cheered. And, when Nate Robinson pledged before the game that this team would win more games than in previous seasons that elicited the biggest cheers of all. Robinson backed up his pledge with 10 points in 16 minutes while Jamal Crawford had 24. Unlike Friday, the Knicks shot well from the charity stripe,...
Boston Celtics player and Brooklyn native Sebastian Telfair continues to deny he had anything to do with Fabolous shooting's outside of Justin's earlier this week. Earlier, the Post reported that Telfair's $50,000 necklace was stolen two hours before Fabolous was shot and a witness heard Telfair call someone "to take care" of it. Supposedly Telfair was just calling to ask for an escort because he was concerned about his and his fiancee's safety - i.e. the call wasn't a hit.
Here we go: Rapper Fabolous now says that he had nothing to do with the unlicensed guns (or car, for that matter) in the car that took him to the hospital. Fabolous had been shot in the leg after an evening at Justin's, and three friends drove him to Bellevue, only to run a red light and have the police stop them, search the car, and find two unlicensed guns in a secret compartment. So the police arrested Fabolous and friends - though Fabolous was able to get treatment for his wound. The rapper's lawyer Alberto Ebanks explained, “If any car had pulled up and offered him a ride to a local emergency room, he would have jumped in. He was in the back seat bleeding profusely.” However, the NY Times reports that the 2005 Dodge Magnum he did jump into was registered to Fabolous's production company - Ghetto Fabolous, Inc.
- Cliff Floyd has come back to New York and is playing baseball. He's just playing in Brooklyn and not Queens. The Mets right fielder is making a rehab start for the Cyclones tonight in Coney Island. Maybe the presence of a Major Leaguer will help the Cyclones win their 2nd game of the season. The Mets' single-A affiliate finally broke through last night in a 4-0 win against the Hudson Valley Renegades. Tickets are still available for the 7 p.m. game.
The shooting was the story, as the team shot an amazing 59% for the game. The Knicks raced to a double digit lead at halftime, and despite a decent rally from the Blazers in the second half, the Knicks continued to hit shots and never trailed in the second half. Allan Houston led the team with 25 points, and Stephon Marbury continued to put up hot numbers with 20 points and 12 assists. The best number of all was the offensive balance, as seven Knicks finished in double figures. On the losing side, Zach Randolph led the Blazers with 27, while Coney Island legend (and Starbury cousin) Sebastian Telfair make his MSG debut with 2 points and 7 assists.
Despite the lack of playing time, Telfair still has high hopes for the future, saying, "I don't accept nothing. I'm not getting comfortable with being on the bench."
Well, we didn't get alot right, but at least we called Sebastian Telfair to the Blazers at 13. Gothamist spent the last week looking up florists in Portland, Orgeon so we could send Blazers GM John Nash a big bouquet of flowers. Because Telfair went early, high school stud Al Jefferson fell to Boston at 15, providing the Celtics with the bruising PF they so desperately needed.
- Break out the broom, Yankees sweep.
Gothamist wonders why Mr. Washington is so bitter about Telfair going pro and his son staying home. The two players played each other in two games last season, with Telfair out playing Washington in both. In a nationally televised game between their two high schools, Telfair led Lincoln to a victory after injuring his ankle. During a basketball camp last summer, Telfair also played better than Washington. Strangely, Telfair and Washington Jr. are also close friends.
The NY Post and ESPN are reporting that the New Jersey Nets have reached an agreement in principle with the Portland Trailblazers to send the 22nd pick in Thursday's NBA draft to Portland for backup PG Eddie Gill and $3 million. Due to league rules, the trade cannot be officially announced until Thursday night.
With the Pistons Championship firmly in the books, the offseason is now underway. The other 28 teams that stopped playing a long time ago have been feverishly preparing for next weeks draft for some time now.
- The waning interest in Sebastian Telfair.
The NBA Draft is less than two weeks away and that means this week is the pre-draft combine in Chicago where college seniors and players from small schools look to impress the NBA scouts and improve their draft rankings. Generally, players thought to be lottery caliber selections skip the camp and choose to work out individually for any team interested in them. In the past, no name players such as Ronald "Flip" Murray, Steven Hunter and Jeryl Sasser have used this camp to shoot up the draft board and land in the first round.
Will Sebastian Telfair be a success or a failure in the NBA? Would he have benefited as a player by going to school or was it better for him to cut and run? Gothamist secretly thought he would be going pro when we wrote about him last time, but we aren't sure if he can succeed with his height. Only time will tell. At least he knows how to do business, putting the adidas announcement before his own announcement. For those of you hoping that he could join his cousin Stephon Marbury on the Knicks, keep dreaming. The Knicks don't have a first round draft pick this year.
Telfair is already a star (check out the gallery Newsday devotes to him), with Jay-Z, Foxy Brown, Spike Lee , and 12,018 other people in attendance at The Garden. Gothamist wonders if Telfair will be the next Kevin Garnett or the next Leon Smith.
