Do You Wear Your Seat Belt In Taxi Cabs?

According to the Taxi and Limousine Commission, if you aren't buckling up when you're a passenger, you aren't alone—around 65% of passengers don't bother with seat belts when they catch a cab (alternatively, 90% use seat belts in private cars). Maybe this is because we treat cabs like any other public transportation in this city—subways, buses, they don't even have seat belts. To combat this, the TLC announced yesterday that it will be running ads on taxi monitors to get riders to change their habit. Previously there have been announcements, but this one will be in your face—that is, if you don't automatically turn Taxi TV off when you get in (which... you do). Many Victims Of Thruway Van Crash Didn't Use Seat Belts

The congregants of the Joy Fellowship Church in Baychester are mourning the loss of their Bishop, his wife, and four other congregants who died in a crash on the NY Thruway. However, the tragic accident has not led them to lose faith. One congregant told the Daily News, "We know God never makes mistakes." Fatal Staten Island Car Accident

The Staten Island Advance reports that a man died last night when "the car he was driving allegedly blew a stop sign and collided with an SUV at a Mariners Harbor intersection." Sources tell the Advance that Carl Thomas, who was pronounced dead at the hospital, was not wearing a seatbelt in his Dodge Charger. Thomas apparently went through the stop sign at Van Pelt and Heusden, turning right into a SUV, sending "both vehicles careening down rain-slicked" streets. The SUV's occupants, who had be to extricated from the vehicle, did not suffer life-threatening injuries, while Thomas, found with the seatbelt clicked in but behind him, had severe chest trauma. The authorities are doing a toxicology report on Thomas's condition. more ›
