Things Getting Ugly for the Nets

Things Getting Ugly for the Nets

Every day brings more bad news for the Nets, losers of 12 of 16 after a 121-96 loss to Denver on Monday. Devin Harris didn't play with a sprained shoulder, and Sean Williams got arrested for allegedly staring an altercation at a Denver area cell-phone dealer. Nice. The Nets lost the four games of this five-game road trip against Western Conference teams. They play the Knicks on Wednesday. The Nets now trail New York by half a game and sit in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, two games out of a playoff spot. more ›

Last Night's Action: Ropin' Mavericks

Last Night's Action: Ropin' Mavericks

Vince Carter put forth one of his best efforts of the season -- a 29-point, nine-rebound performance. And that was after a nasty elbow sent him to the locker room. But the Nets' defense -- or the Mavericks' poor shooting -- was the story in this one. Dallas made only 36.5 percent of its shots.

  • Captials 3, Rangers 2 (OT): Ryan Hollweg will have five full days to think about the tripping penalty he took in the final minute of regulation. Just 23 seconds after the teams took the ice in overtime, the Capitals finally converted on a power play and took the two points. Steve Valiquette, who had shutouts in his last two starts, played on consecutive nights for the first time in his career. That didn't go over so well, but the goal in overtime wasn't his fault. He had 21 saves. Sean Avery and Chris Drury lit the lamp for the Rangers.

Last Night's Action: Behind the 8-ball

Last Night's Action: Behind the 8-ball

    • Spurs 99, Knicks 93 (OT): Normally, the Knicks do this in reverse. They fall behind big early, rally to make things respectable and pat themselves on the back. This game was worse. They blew an 18-point third-quarter lead and then didn't seem to care about the result when the game went to overtime. This is the second time they've lost eight straight. Will they have another eight-game skid before the season ends?
    • Nets 104, Bobcats 90: Jason Kidd's line: 19 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists and 0 answered questions after the game. He wasn't in the mood to talk despite the Nets' throttling of the Bobcats. Nenad Krstic, who started over Sean Williams, had only two points in 15 minutes. He'll need to recover from injury quickly if the Nets want to win more games.
    • Ducks 2, Devils 1: Scott Niedermayer had an assist in his return to New Jersey as the Ducks finished their three-game romp through the New York area. Niedermayer played 13 seasons with the Devils, but the fans didn't seem to appreciate that tenure.

Last Night's Action: The Knicks Are Ok (Tonight)

Last Night's Action: The Knicks Are Ok (Tonight)

Jamal Crawford led the way with 32 points and Zach Randolph added 20. Even Eddy Curry looked interested with 23 points and 9 rebounds, only his third game of the season with more than 8 rebounds. Add it all up and the Knicks got out of the cellar in the Eastern Conference. more ›

Last Night's Action: Waiting for 500

Last Night's Action: Waiting for 500

Rangers 4, Devils 2: Given New Jersey's recent dominance over its cross-river rivals, Martin Brodeur's picking up his 500th win against Rangers would have seemed appropriate. Jaromir Jagr and Henrik Lunqvist had other ideas. Lundqvist stopped 22 shots and Jagr added a goal and an assist as the Rangers on the Prudential Center ice. Even defenseman Marc Staal got into the act. Jamie Langenbrunner had two goals for the home team, whose fans eagerly booed... more ›

Did The Two Sides Of Isiah Have A Good Night?

Did The Two Sides Of Isiah Have A Good Night?

There are two sides to Isiah Thomas. There is the GM who drafts diligently building a team from the ground up, or Dr. Jekyll. And then there is the GM who recklessly trades players simply to trade them while acquiring bigger salaries and losing draft picks, or Mr. Hyde. Both sides were on display Thursday night as Isiah radically overhauled the Knicks and may have finally come up with a trade that made them better. more ›
