Professional golf is coming to Manhattan. Of course, it's on Governor's Island, only 9 holes, and it's a pro-am tournament which will feature professional women and Hollywood actors. The tournament, dubbed The Manhattan Golf Classic and scheduled for October 22nd, will be on the only golf course in all of Manhattan. Scenes from the tournament will surely be beautiful. With the historic buildings on the island, the Brooklyn and the Manhattan skyline as backdrops, the statue of liberty, and the sun setting? It seems like a producer's dream. The pros signed up to appear are Annika Sorenstam, Natalie Gulbis, and Hank Haney while the celebrities are Bruce McGill, Dennis Quaid, and Craig T. Nelson (Coach!!). The course is being leased for a mere $75,000 from the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation, but Newsday reports that the organizers already have $2 million in advertising lined up. more ›

You hate to cheer for injuries, but sometimes they can be blessings in disguise. Yesterday when Victor Zambrano underwent surgery to repair his torn flexor tendon, he also had unexpected Tommy John surgery. It was the second Tommy John surgery in his career - the first coming long before the Mets traded Scott Kazmir for Zambrano. It's painfully obvious now who came out on top of that trade. While the surgery leaves the back end of the Mets rotation in question, the doubt is better than knowing that Zambrano was there, ready to turn out one poor performance after another. more ›

The Yankees had every right for being upset that the Devil Rays did not show up on Monday in time for the double-header, but asking for a forfeit is not the Yankee way. It shows signs of frustration and worst of all desperation. more ›

In yesterday's game, Tom Glavine pitched five innings, giving up six runs including a 3 run home run to Andruw Jones in a 6-5 loss (box score). Not exactly the way you want your ace pitcher to play.
