If Justin Timberlake is being credited for bringing sexy back, then the Scissor Sisters can be credited for bringing disco, fun and colorful stage shows back. The (mostly) New Yorkers are back in town tomorrow night, taking the stage at MSG. Babydaddy recently took the time to answer some questions for us (he's the one in the pink pantsuit). Let's get this out of the way, where did your band name originate? Friend of Jake's......

The Scissor Sisters are in town this weekend and we've got a pair of tickets for you! They play Madison Square Garden on Saturday (March 3rd), so get ready to have your pants danced right off, and answer us this: What American daytime soap did the band recently appear on? Email your answers to GothamistContest (a) gmail dot com (we won't judge you for watching your "stories").......

The Wrens Play for Planned Parenthood, The Knit Gets a Makeover Last Friday The Wrens headlined a benefit show for Planned Parenthood, celebrating the 34th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision. The band played their usual Meadowlands-heavy mix of old songs, and made an announcement that it would more than likely be their final show supporting their now nearly 4 year old album. They will be working on putting together something new this summer.......

DISCUSSION: Tonight Dirty Dancing author Eleanor Bergstein will discuss the similarities between Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and her own masterpiece, which starred Patrick Swayze. Shakespearian scholars will be in attendence to agree or, most likely, refute the argument. This discussion may have been a bit more relevant in, say, 1987 - when the film came out. 7:30pm // National Arts Club [15 Gramercy Park South] // Free THEATER: The No Frills Company, which is dedicated......

Siren is always a half-empty/half-full type situation. On one hand, you're getting top tier indie bands playing in New York City for free. On the other, you know going into it the sound will be lousy, the crowds unbearable and the heat incapacitating. Depending on how you play your expectations, it can be a great day or a miserable one. This was my 4th Siren, and while always prepared for the worst, it turned out......

So we know that David Cross and Co. have bought the bar "Eleven" on Orchard Street, it was only inevitable that younger, more energetic comedian Jimmy Fallon has beat him to the punch by already opening the doors to his very own performance space: Mo Pitkin's House of Satisfaction [as reported on the Apiary]. Okay maybe he's not more energetic, we don't know, we're basing this on the fact that Fallon danced a lot at......

Recently Gothamist saw a little ad hidden away giving a web address and hinting toward free secret shows. This ad being in a print publication we were unable to click on it and thus had to remember the URL until we were sitting in front of a computer. We remembered, because we are poor and like music. So we checked it out and it's all part of some elaborate ad campaign. Basically, New Yorkers can......

This is where Gothamist tells you what tickets to buy...because not every band gives it away for free on a flatbed truck (yes, we've somehow managed to make the free U2 show sound dirty.) So, before the tickets sell out and you are left bargaining on Craigslist, we are here to tell you what to buy... -* First and foremost, they just put up extra tickets to the Guided By Voices shows this weekend. BUY......

Just a reminder incase you didn't see this post last month: Gothamist has missed far too many sold out shows to know that buying tickets ahead of time is imperative. In that vein, every month or so we'll make it a point to update you with a list of shows we think may sell out. This way you can buy tickets ahead of time and avoid that last minute Craigslist surfing. Here is a list......
