We were reading New York Magazine's Fashion Week Food Diaries where models, a show producer, and a fashion editor submitted three days of their eating habits. The fashion editor is Elle's fashion news director, Anne Slowey, who we remember very well from Project Runway's season 2 ice skating outfit challenge. And the diary seems to clear up some things.
Well, That Might Explain It
Coats on Ice, Jazz, and Pink Elephant!
Despite the warm winter weather, coat drives have not lost momentum this season in comparison to coat sales.
Sterling Silver
You spend years training for the Olympics and then when things don’t go your way people who have probably never laced on skates ridicule you. Such is the life of an Olympic skater. Sasha Cohen wasn’t her best yesterday, falling on her first two jumps, but she managed to recover and bring home a silver medal.
One and Done
It was an ugly end for the U.S. hockey team. They came out of the gate flat, fell behind 2-0, took some stupid penalties and then complained about a lack of free airline tickets after their 4-3 loss to Finland. While the result is disappointing, it is not surprising since the U.S. team clearly didn’t have the talent they did in 2002. Finland advances to the semifinals along with Sweden, the Czech Republic and Russia who finished off Canada 2-0.
Awesome!
Sasha Cohen dazzled the judges with her outstanding short program. Cohen was flawless and took a .03 lead over Irina Slutskaya. 16-year old Kimmie Meissner was impressive in her Olympic debut skating fifth overall. Long Island’s Emily Hughes was solid, finishing seventh overall. Four years ago her sister, Sarah, came from fourth after the short program to win the gold passing both Cohen and Slutskaya, so expect a lot of hype before Thursday’s final.
"Skating" with Tim Gunn!
Have we mentioned that Project Runway might be the best show on Earth? Last night, all remaining eight designers to wear tacky skating outfits and to ice-skate. Even Tim Gunn skated awkwardly! And Emmett, who we call "The Barnacle," wore this crazy fuschia blouson! The challenge was to design a skating outfit for Sasha Cohen (who recently won the national championship, ensuring her a place on the Olympic team, but since Project Runway was taped earlier, they kept calling her a national "silver medalist"). This proved more difficult, as they had to deal with more Lycra-fabrics and with Andrae's hysteria over the overlocker sewing machines (they are the machines you'd want to sew Lycra with). But they did get to hoof it to NJ and ice-skate in a train - they all seemed to get along then. Here are a couple things we noticed/wondered with this episode:
