Win and they are in. That is the simple truth for the Giants heading into Sunday’s game. A victory and they will make the postseason for the third year in a row, a feat they haven’t achieved in twenty-one years.

Remember how excited some people got when Roger Clemens announced he was coming back to the Yankees? New Jets starting quarterback Kellen Clemens -- no relation, but like Roger's kids, his name does start with "K" -- won't get as much attention, but he still has quite a following. Weeks of calls for Chad Pennington to sit in favor of Clemens didn't persuade Coach Eric Mangini, but a 1-7 start has been enough for him...
The Giants had their chances, but they just couldn’t stop the Redskins when it mattered. Santana Moss went wild, scoring three TD’s, two of them on receptions over fifty yards, as Washington beat New York 35-20. The win keeps the Redskins in the playoff hunt and leaves the Giants facing a big game in Oakland next week if they want to win their division.
It should be a bruising battle when the Redskins come to town for a clash with the Giants Sunday at 1pm. Washington is 4-2 thanks to a strong defense and the rejuvenated Mark Brunell. Former Jet, Santana Moss, is having a stellar season averaging almost 20 yards a catch with five TD’s.
The Giants did not have the same quantity of picks that the Jets did, but they managed to fill several needs. With Michael Strahan’s injury last year, the Giants’ lack of depth on their defensive line was exposed; adding Jason Tuck and Eric Moore should help to address that. Third down with one yard to go has been a situation that makes Giants’ fans queasy and hopefully running back, Brandon Jacobs will solve that. At 6-3, 256 pounds, he certainly has the size to. With their top selection, the Giants chose cornerback, Corey Webster. Webster will instantly become the cornerback in the nickel defense and protects the Giants from the potential loss of starter, Will Allen, after the 2005 season.
It seems nobody believes in this team right now, at least after a stretch that saw the team's offense disappear and the team back into the playoffs, even with Chad Pennington seemingly healthy. Read between the lines in receiver Santana Moss's diary - 'Everything is fine, but the media and fans are busy being negatoids'.
After being knocked silly immediately at the start of the game, quarterback Quincy Carter came through in the end (particularly on a 69-yard strike to Santana Moss) and even found redemption of sorts, writes the Times' William C. Rhoden. Then again, his team got ample help from the Cards, who seemed to be in a giving mood, with four turnovers in the fourth quarter.
Starting QB Chad Pennington did not return to action after the midway point of the fourth quarter, when he aggravated the right shoulder he had had bruised on a first quarter scramble that resulted in a fumble. Even though the game's outcome had not been completely decided at that point, coach Herm Edwards should be commended for his decision to not risk Pennington's shoulder (and likely the Jets' entire season) when the team has an experienced backup like Quincy Carter ready in the wing. That said, it was a sloppy handoff from Carter to Curtis Martin that resulted in a Buffalo safety late in the game.
After acing last Monday night's "test" with the Miami Dolphins, one can only assume that the Jets will aim to look better than they did a few weeks ago, against these same Bills. But that was long ago, when liberals weren't an endangered species.
