Week in Rock: DIY Edition

This just in: an employee over at Pianos on Ludlow Street has just informed us that the venue suffered some damages from a fire earlier this morning. He tells us, "There was a small electrical fire at Pianos this morning—the sprinklers went off and soaked everything, so we're going to have to close the club tonight. Things will resume as normal tomorrow for the Unisex Salon/Vulture Whale show."

Red Alert: Ryan Gosling Embedded in Moving Crew!

Moving in New York just got so much easier (on the eyes). People, prepare to swoon: Ryan Gosling was been spotted on East 7th Street in the East Village today with a moving crew. Allegedly he's researching a new role, and Vanishing NY reports back with all the details (and more importantly, photographs): "Word on the street is he's doing research for a new movie called Blue Valentine in which he plays the part of a mover. And if it doesn't work out, we're sure he has that URL for at...

(directed by Jim Henson)

7:06PM First thoughts: Gael Garcia Bernal is so cute. Ryan Seacrest is an idiot, as are Joan and Melissa Rivers. But we want to know what Jennifer Lopez is wearing! (It turns out to be Marchesa.)

There is tons of speculation all over the Internet about the Oscar nominations for films released in 2006. As an Oscars fiend, we're not going to digress about the calculus of vote-splitting. Instead, we'll point out a couple things we noticed:

Oliver Stone may have already unleashed on moviegoers his melodramatic vision of 9/11 with but even if you don't want to see the wreckage recreated on screen, there's way more filling New York movie screens.

READINGS: Mark Helprin, author of the whimsical and weird (reviewed on Gothamist) will be reading from the novel at the 7th Ave Barnes & Noble in Brooklyn. We suspect the witty parts will be even more witty when read in a British accent, so head on down. - Krissa Corbett Cavouras
