Natasha Lyonne – remember her? – has resurfaced, and not at the morgue! In fact, the young hellion seems to be doing quite well for herself – at least that’s the portrait painted by this convivial Times profile, in which reporter Robert Simonson smokes Marlboro Lights with her on the roof of Theater Row, where she’s to appear in the new Mike Leigh play Two Thousand Years. Though off the horse, the actress isn’t all yoga and Celestial Seasonings – she’s quick to point out that she usually smokes Marlboro 72’s, because they’re “like something Robert Mitchum would smoke.”

There is a little boy on Gothamist's block who has the most striking head of platinum curls. Recently, during a brief stop and chat, Gothamist couldn't help but remark on this to his mother. She responded, "Where we're from in the midwest, no one would even notice his blonde hair. But, here people are crazy for it. I have had women ask for pictures of him to bring to their salon!" Striving for the perfect 'natural' blonde is nothing new, but who knew it was such an incredible status symbol that tow-headed children are perfect salon specimens?

So speaking of generosity, we got a solicitous letter from our alma mater yesterday that we wanted to share with you.

Solidifying his support for the Jets' bid to develop the West Side, Reverend Al Sharpton will be appearing in some pro-West Side Stadium ads. He says:

The Jets have come to labor, have come to the black and Latino community and have made firm commitments, which sets a standard for doing business in this city. No one should want to build in this city without dealing with the concerns and the needs of the people in this city. So they've earned our support.
The ads will start running tomorrow, according to the Daily News, but as with Mayor Giuliani's pro-West Side Stadium ads (which started running last week), Cablevision won't be showing the ads. As Cablevision has a big presence in the Bronx and Brooklyn, Gothamist wonders if the black support the Reverend Al hopes to drum up will happen.

In more serious news, Sharpton has been asking people to stop listening to violent rap for 90 days, a ban to make people realize that this music only romanticizes crime. hip hop music points out there are already other grassroots movements around this issue and is surprised that Sharpton is going to ask the FCC to regulate music. Gothamist is not as surprised, because even though Sharpton seems mellower, he's still a master of the media, and would naturally look for ways to maximize publicity.

The NYPD did issue protest permits to 14 other groups, including the Christian Defense Coalition, Planned Parenthood, Vietnam Veterans of America and the Hip Hop Summit Action Network. The NY Times has an interesting article about how the protest issue is affecting the Bloomberg administration: "Mr. Bloomberg cannot afford to create the impression that the city is stifling protest, nor does he want the considerable ire that many peaceful protesters feel toward President Bush to be turned onto him instead."
