Radiohead Resurfaces At Roseland (Video, Photos, Set List)
It's been more than three years since Radiohead gigged in the NYC area, and considering the long absence (not to mention their status as greatest living rock band, man), they could have easily sold out multiple nights at Madison Square Garden in minutes. But the Garden is under construction (and the Barclays Center isn't done!), so the band instantly sold out the laughably small Roseland Ballroom instead. Demand was high, with scumbags scalping tickets for as high as $600, and the line to get in last night wrapped all the way around the block and back to the entrance, because—in a partially successful attempt to limit scalping—all tickets were will-call, with the ticket buyer escorted into the venue immediately.
[UPDATE] Radiohead Confirms Two Nights At Roseland!
[Update Below] Radiohead. Roseland Ballroom. Two nights. Tickets? GOOD LUCK. It's been three long years since the fantastic five played in the NYC area (just across the river at All Points West). With the announcement that they'd be in town for television appearances this month, rumors ran wild that the band would inevitably play a show outside a TV studio. Earlier this morning, we guessed they'd rock Roseland, and lo and behold it is thus. From the band's management:
After The Fire: Roseland Will Reopen Tomorrow
Roseland Ballroom will be open as of tomorrow, according to a woman who just answered the phone there. Last night the venue caught fire, and while there were no shows happening and the building was vacant, the FDNY's Frank Dwyer tells us that seven firefighters were injured while battling the flames (all with minor non-life threatening injuries). He added that the cause remains under investigation by the FDNY Fire Marshals.
Breaking: Roseland Ballroom On Fire!
At about 10:40 p.m. we received word of a 2nd Alarm at 239 West 52nd Street and 8th Avenue, better known as Roseland Ballroom. A live scanner feed confirmed, and according to reports we're getting over the newswire Con Ed has been requested to the scene. The NYScanner Twitter described the fire as "heavy," and EmergencyStream says it's on the mezzanine level.
Tibet Comes to Carnegie Hall
Last night Robert Thurman's annual Tibet House benefit concert took to Carnegie Hall, featuring performances by Antibalas, The National (who performed two new, untitled songs), Vampire Weekend, Patti Smith, Steve Earle, Angelique Kidjo, Keb' Mo', Philip Glass, and his son Zack (whose performance served as an alternate answer to that age old question, how does one get to Carnegie Hall).
