Two rookie cops stumbled upon $667,000 worth of cocaine thanks to a nervous drug courier. As the officers approached the corner of West 190th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue in Fort George, 29-year-old Jose Milan dropped two duffel bags and walked away. NYPD Blue Ready to Trade Up to Emerald City

Responding to the siren call of higher salaries and a lower cost of living, about 200 cops showed up to take the four hour written exam to join the Seattle Police Department yesterday. Of the 200 who sat for the exam, it was estimated that the vast majority were from New York's police department. The New York Post reports that 148 of the test takers had at least one year experience in law enforcement already and the Daily News said that 72 of the test takers had at least two years on the job. more ›

Not only is the NYPD having trouble getting potential recruits to sit for the entrance exam to the Police Academy, but one in five who gain entrance wind up dropping out or disqualifying themselves before they graduate. The end result is that for the first time in years, fewer than 1,000 were officers were added to the force from a graduating class and the size of the NYPD has shrunk to its smallest number in 15 years. more ›
