- Angels 7 Yankees 6 (10 innings):Extr Up and down, up and down, this game kept spinning. Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run homer to put New York ahead, but the Angels came back. Jorge Posada hit a homer to tie things up in the eighth, but the Angels wouldn’t relent. They made things very interesting in the bottom of the ninth, but Mariano escaped a huge jam.

- Yankees 9, Royals 2: After scoring 38 runs in two games, nine runs in one game doesn't seem like much. What's wrong with these bums? Only eight of nine starters scored a run. Even though all nine starters had hits, six of them managed just one. That kind of weak production just isn't going to get it done. Roger Clemens threw seven innings of two-run ball. He didn't walk a batter and struck out three, but the Yankees' five-run ninth made things a little less dramatic. When Ron Villone pitches the ninth inning, things are going really well or really poorly.

- Chicago 6 Yankees 4Joe Torre always likes to say that momentum is all about the next day’s starting pitcher and tonight proved that. Fresh off a huge win in Boston, the Yankees squandered any momentum they had with a terrible performance from Matt DeSalvo. While nobody expected DeSalvo to be a savior, giving up three runs and six baserunners in 1.1 innings failed to meet the lowest of expectations. At least the Yankees may be able to count on Roger Clemens to fill this hole in the rotation the next time around.

- Toronto 7 Yankees 2: At this rate, they will cancel “Yes’ Ultimate Road Trip” before August. At this rate, Roger Clemens might just give the money back and retire. Ok, maybe that won’t happen, but after another dreadful loss, it’s impossible to say what could happen next in Yankeeland. As per the recent norm, Monday’s loss was characterized by a complete lack of timely hitting. In three of the first four innings, the Yankees got a runner on second, only to strand him there.

Coming into the game, Zambrano had been a mess, but Tuesday he was back in form, striking out three while allowing six hits over eight innings. The Cubs backed that up with 15 hits, including three by Cliff Floyd and a monster home run by Aramis Ramirez. Shawn Green homered to give the Mets their only run and Carlos Delgado left the game after being hit in the finger, he is day-to-day. Jorge Sosa faces Rich Hill tomorrow night (weather permitting).
-Yankees 9 Orioles 4: Sal Fasano became a Yankee because of his defense and not his hitting, but on Sunday he showed that he has some offensive skills too. Fasano went 2-4 with a three-run homer as New York cruised to an easy victory.
- Mets 4, Astros 2: We always thought that Philadelphia fans had the reputation for being the nastiest fans in the sports, but maybe not. Last night, former Astro and current Mets MVP candidate, Carlos Beltran made a game saving catch with two runners on base in the 9th inning and hurt his knee on the fence in the process. While being helped off the field, an audible group of Astros fans were actually booing Beltran. The injury was diagnosed as a bruised knee. John Maine won for the 5th straight time as the Mets reduced their magic number was reduced to 12.
-Yankees 16 Mets 7: You can cross “A-Rod never gets a big hit against the Mets” off your list of reasons to boo him. Sunday night A-Rod delivered two huge hits, a grand slam and a three-run homer as the Yankees drew a split in the Subway Series.
-Reds 6 Mets 5: Jose Reyes recorded the first cycle in the majors this year, but Billy Wagner blew the save and the Mets lost. Wagner got the first two outs of the ninth, but then walked Austin Kearns and David Ross and gave up back-to-back singles to Rich Aurilia and Brandon Phillips. Carlos Beltran led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk, but Carlos Delgado flied out and David Wright grounded into a double play to end the game. The Mets finish their homestand tomorrow before heading to Toronto.
The Yankees biggest question mark heading into the season was the quality of their starting pitching and the first eight games have done nothing to change that. Randy Johnson and Mike Mussina have been very good, while Chien-Ming Wang and Shawn Chacon have not. Yesterday Chacon was shaky against the Royals, but the Yankees offense bailed him out for a 12-5 win.
Spring is almost here! Pitchers and catchers started reporting to camps in Florida today. In Port St. Lucie the Mets are welcoming new faces Billy Wagner, Carlos Delgado and Paul Lo Duca, as well as several others. In Tampa, the Yankees have several new pitchers, Kyle Farnsworth, Octavio Dotel, Mike Myers and Ron Villone joining their staff.
Orlando Hernandez looks flat-out amazing these days. He may be the best pitcher on the Yankees pitching staff and right now is the only one that you can count on for a solid start. Last night Hernandez took his record to 5-0 with a 5-1 win over the hard-hitting Texas Rangers.
