Jagr and Rozsival put the Rangers up 2-0 in the first before Eric Belanger cut the lead in half. The Rangers opened another two-goal lead in the second when Marcel Hossa made it 3-1, but Shane Hnidy cut the lead to 1 again midway through the period.

With their future stadium as the backdrop, the Mets took on the "team to beat in the NL East." Those were the words of Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins in January, words that he would eat in the Mets 11-5 win Monday afternoon. John Maine lacked control in his second start of the season, loading the bases in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings. Maine was removed after 4 2/3 innings of work. The Phillies left 9 runners on base in the game, but in the 6th inning Ryan Howard, the reigning NL MVP, hit his first home run of the season. The two-out, three-run home run came off Ambiorix Burgos, giving the Phillies a 5-3 lead.

Last night, Steve Trachsel threw 6 2/3 shutout innings and Mike Stanton and John Franco finished the game, extending the Mets streak of shutout innings to 22. The Mets got started in the 3rd inning when Mike Piazza, the man the Mets can always turn to, hit a single to scoring Danny Garcia. Piazza also had a solo home run in the 6th inning. In the 7th inning, with two outs and the Mets up 3-0, Ty Wigginton dropped the ball (literally) to load the bases, extending the inning and ending the night for Trachsel. The error is the latest thing to make Flushing Local wonder if it's time for him to go. Lucky for the Mets, Stanton struck out Jimmy Rollins to end the inning.

Scratchy voiced Alan Light and John Rollins (Gothamist doesn't know anything about Rollins' voice, only Light's because he'dcomment on ANYTHING on VH1) bring a new music magazine offering with Tracks, oriented to more adult readers. The Times' David Carr looks at this venture, which seems to follow the music industry's realization that older consumers will buy, versus download, music, but the older consumers are simply not being spoken to. One doubtful industry expert, wondering if there are adults obsessive enough to shell out some change for a magazine about the music they like, says, "My experience has been that the people who like to listen to Bonnie Raitt and Phil Collins do not have music as a primary interest." Well, duh. If any magazine had a editorial mission to simply cover Phil Collins, it would only be good as a money laundering scheme. But this sounds just like the original business plan for VH1, so expect a couple issues down the road for it to be all about the 80s. Or the Fabulous Life of Sharon Osbourne.
