Jason Kidd trade rumors are hardly new, but this time, they're probably for real. Nets President Rod Thorn and the guard have made no secret of the seemingly obvious incentives for both parties to want a deal before the Feb. 21 NBA trading deadline. Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter, the younger parts of the Big Three, have expensive contracts.

-Sonics 119, Nets 113: Playing on consecutive nights for the first time this season, the Nets looked weary in a loss at home to Seattle. They fell behind by as many as 28 in the first half before closing to make it respectable. Just as Jones torched the Knicks, Luke Ridnour had a career night in lighting up the Nets, scoring 32 points. Vince Carter's 38 points couldn't make up for Richard Jefferson's absence, but Nets president Rod Thorn has suggested Jefferson's sprained ankle won't keep him out much longer.

The Sports Guy has said it many, many times, but we’re gonna repeat it here. It’s hard being an NBA fan these days. I’m not even talking about stye of play, tattoos and cornrows, the flood of high school kids in the league, etc. I’m talking about NBA starts demanding top dollar contracts and then asking to be traded when their team suffers because of it. Case in point, Jason Kidd of the New Jersey Nets.

Bruce Ratner may soon regret not ponying up the dough to keep Kenyon Martin in Jersey. Jason Kidd is contemplating demanding a trade, Richard Jefferson is no longer a lock to resign with New Jersey, ditto for Rod Thorn, whose contract expires in two years.

Rod Thorn threw in the towel last night and started discussing a sign and trade with the Nuggets that would ship Kenyon Martin out West. "You guys will find out soon. Something is going to happen soon," said Martin.

At 12:01 AM this morning, NBA free agents finally became eligible to put their John Hancock on the deals they agreed to over the last two weeks. While most of the press is focusing on where Kobe Bryant will land, local hoops fans are waiting with baited breath to find out what Kenyon Martin decides to do.

Jason Kidd and Allan Houston both have bum knees. Kidd, the Brooklyn New Jersey Nets point guard may miss the rest of the regular season and playoffs with his knee injury with surgery a possibility as well. Houston, the Knicks co-captain, has no idea when he will return. The injuries to both players have post-season implications for their teams.
