A man in Brownsville was killed on July 4 when he was mistakenly accused of hollering at the girlfriend of another man, who then pulled out a gun and opened fire. Nakie Hector, 30, was walking with his brother Terrence just after 10 p.m. when he was accused of making a pass at the young woman who was walking with her boyfriend. Terrence says that his brother was merely talking loudly into his cell phone. After the brothers tried to squash the beef, they walked away from the spot on Rockaway Boulevard, only to have the boyfriend shoot Nakie Hector three times, one bullet hitting him directly in the heart and killing him. A neighbor said, "I heard fireworks. Then I heard something else that wasn't [fireworks]. It was much louder." Police are still searching for a suspect—Hector's family members claim the gunman was a complete stranger to the victim. On his Facebook page, Hector's friends expressed condolences, one saying, "Sorry, that you had to fall victim to this senseless violence. You will be [missed] my dude." Hector leaves behind a young son.

A toddler is in critical condition after being struck last night by a hit-and-run driver in the Woodhaven section of Queens. A two-year-old girl wandered away from her house where she was with family around 9:30 p.m. and found her way onto the Rockaway Boulevard and 185th Street intersection where she was hit. The vehicle drove off and the girl remained lying in the street until another driver spotted her and called police. The girl was rushed off to Jamaica Hospital where she remains in critical condition. No witnesses were able to get a description of the vehicle. Police urge anyone with information to call, text or visit the Crime Stoppers website.

Queens residents are fuming about a massive billboard of an exotic dancer that's gone up on Rockaway Boulevard to promote the Platinum Gentleman's Club. Fox 5 peeks inside the home of one resident, who shows that when she sits down to look at her Christmas tree, the racy advertisement hovers in the background like a vision of Pottersville. What's worse is her teenage son can see it from his bedroom window, so now he knows about half-naked ladies. Enter City Councilman James Sanders, who says that if Platinum won't tear down that sign, he'll send photographers to the club to "take pictures of the great clientele and post them on the web and wherever we can advertise them." The idea is that attending a strip club is so shameful that clients will be "deterred," but didn't Owen Wilson shatter that myth that time he proudly rode his bike to Scores?

Mr. Black, a club at 643 Broadway (near Bleecker) was raided early yesterday morning. Thirty-two people were arrested, including 17 employees, on charges ranging from suspicion of drug possession and suspicion of selling drugs. Apparently many bags of cocaine and ecstasy were found.

We bet most anyone who has attempted to follow a map in Queens can empathize with the plight of new immigrant Damon Mootoo. Mootoo, who had just arrived from Guyana, got lost when he left his brother's home on 152nd Street in South Jamaica and ended up wandering around in the cold for five days. Five days! The Daily News reported that Mootoo, who can speak English but is hard of hearing, "didn't want to approach a cop because he feared he'd be deported." He managed to get by by begging for water and sleeping in an abandoned car or under a piece of wood in someone's yard in the below-freezing temperature.
