Triumph the Insult Comic Dog never seems to run out of material when it comes to making fun of nerds. Ever since Conan O'Brien and (the man beneath Triumph) Robert Smigel let him loose on the Star Wars fans lined up for the premiere of Attack of the Clones in 2002, sci-fi and comic book fans have been a regular target for Triumph. Last night, Conan showed Triumph's latest trail of terror throughout last weekend's Comic-Con in San Diego. In the video, Triumph himself is astounded at some point that he hasn't run out of fat jokes. In L.A., Un-Cabaret has been a fixture of the alternative comedy scene for over a decade. Founder Beth Lapides started it after growing tired of what mainstream stand-up comedy was offering, and brought in friends over the years like David Cross and Bob Odenkirk, Michael Patrick King, Scott Thompson and Patton Oswalt to break new ground and showcase their material. Today it has grown into a tiny empire with live shows, writing classes and contests for aspiring writers. This week several venues around our fair city play host to The Uncabaret Micro-Festival where never before seen TV pilots will air and comedy workshops will be held, and for comedy nerds (redundant, I know) the lineup is pretty great. more ›

Gothamist could not have been the first to think of "The X-Presidents" cartoons on Saturday Night Live when we saw the press conference where President Bush announced that his daddy and President Clinton would help raise funds for tsunami relief. Of course, a more power tableau was during the Clinton Presidential Library opening, because President Carter was also present, but in this instance, President Bush is calling upon ex-Presidents to fight for a good cause. We have to tip our hat to W's team, because there is something motivating to see his predecessors back in a sort of action. more ›
