Former Daily Show correspondent and Children's Hospital creator Rob Corddry is currently bringing his considerably wicked comic gifts to the new movie Hot Tub Time Machine, the brilliantly-named flick that actually lives up to the potential of its title. The plot, as you surely know by now, concerns three aging buddies who return to the fun-times ski lodge of their youth to recapture the magic. But they get more than they bargained for when the titular tub transports them to 1986, when they had more hair, less flab, and a whole different set of problems.

Rob Corddry, Comedian
After starting out in New York performing for years at the UCB Theater, both as an improviser and a member of the popular sketch group Naked Babies, Rob Corddry first made a name for himself in 2002 when he was brought on The Daily Show as a correspondent. He left the show in 2006 to do sitcoms and films and has been working steadily ever since, most recently playing former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer in Oliver Stone's W. Starting in December, Warner Brothers is launching Children's Hospital, a web series that he wrote, directed and stars in. Rob checked in to chat about the new series, doing The Daily Show in an election year and life in LA versus back here in New York.
Last Minute Benefit Events
There are some great benefits happening around town tonight, we suggest you hit one, or both, up if you have the time.
Mucho comedy this week!
Gothamist loves that on any given night, the performers and writers who create shows like SNL, Conan and the Daily Show are performing live at other venues around the city. It’s just one of the many reasons we love living here and this week it seems like there are more opportunities to check them out than usual.
It's Potter Time
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is being released tonight at midnight, and as there is nothing that the media likes better than getting quotes from kids, don't expect to escape unscathed. What better fun is there than seeing Jon Stewart trip over the word "Muggle" on The Daily Show or Rob Corddry's excellent report on Harry Potter book security? And there are a ton of Harry Potter parties this evening, from the children's book haven Books of Wonder, where illustrator Mary Grandpre will be on hand to autograph books, not to mention owls (!!!), to the corner Barnes & Noble. And for adults, McNally Robinson in Nolita is going to have food and Hufflepuff Hooch, palm readers, and Zach from the Fresh Kills DJing. Gothamist hasn't been keeping up with the Potter books, but we are eager to hear who will die, just so we can win a future game of Trivial Pursuit: The Harry Potter Edition.
Upcoming
If you aren't in Indio, California this weekend then you aren't seeing Nine Inch Nails, the Arcade Fire or Spoon. You also aren't going to be suffering from heat stroke in a desert and buying $8 bottles of water, so we think you made a wise decision to skip Coachella. This weekend in New York we say goodbye to April, which if the old saying is correct - no more rain! Right? So throw away your umbrella and head to the May Day Festival in Tompkins Square Park this Sunday. And in the meantime, check this stuff out:
Faking Out City Hall
Gothamist wishes we had a City Hall bureau, but we'll settle for our imaginary one. The Daily Show airs at 11PM and repeats at 7PM the day after. Also, CafePress has a "Not Jeff Gannon" Teddy Bear.
