The Seebühne is a floating stage on Lake Constance in Austria, and the epic centerpiece of the annual Bregenz Festival there. Performances are running through August 21st, but a lot of good that does us... unless it comes to the East River next. Seriously, there is nothing cool in the East River, and since we never drained it, can't we just put something cool in it? C'mon New York, get creative with those Kickstarters. Grab your trunks and inflate your inner tubes, because Times Square is getting a "river." Brooklyn-based artist Molly Dilworth beat out 150 other artists for the commission to paint the pedestrian plazas on Broadway from 47th to 42nd Streets. Her "temporary" design, titled "Cool Water, Hot Island," is composed of a graphical representation of NASA's infrared satellite data of Manhattan. Here's why she won, according to the DOT: more ›

Macondo: Named after the fictional Colombian village in Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, this new Lower East Side restaurant gives Latin street food a gourmet twist. We stopped in for dinner Thursday night, and though they're still working out the kinks (the frozen drinks took forever, and some of the staff had no idea what they were setting down on the table) it's worth a trip for the cod fish Arepa alone. The fresh tropical fruit cocktails are quite refreshing; the frozen Avocado and Mezcal cocktail was a winner, and the Açaí and Pomegranate Rum, a sort of Brazilian tropical mojito, was almost irresistible.
