Chris and our production designer Howard and our cinematographer Stephen have all dedicated themselves to defying anyone to recognize that the entire film wasn't shot in NYC. We saw your recent story on the Gothamist website about the film version of Rent, and we wanted to take the opportunity to clarify a few points that were made.
While you state that Rent is to be filmed in San Francisco, in fact all exterior shots for the film are to be filmed in New York City. The Treasure Island location in San Francisco is where the soundstages and interior sets are to be located.

Casting: "Busy Philipps and Maitland Ward will star opposite Marlon and Shawn Wayans in Revolution Studios' comedy 'White Chicks,' directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans. The movie, produced by the Wayans along with Rick Alvarez and Lee Mayes, begins filming in Vancouver, Canada, on Oct. 19. The film, which is written by the Wayans, tells the story of two black police officers who must go undercover in the Hamptons as two Caucasian socialites. Ward and the already cast Anne Dudek play socialite sisters and heiresses Brittany and Tiffany Wilton; Philipps portrays their best friend who is always wearing clothes three sizes too small for her." - Hollywood Reporter
